Obituaries
Anne Moss Covington
Mrs. Anne Moss Covington of 143 Woodview Road, Halifax died Sunday,
March 16, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Richmond on
July
4, 1930, she was 77 at the time of her death. She was the daughter
of
the late Garland Edward Moss and Ruby Calbert Moss and was married
to
Dr. William Register Covington, Jr. She was a member of St. John's
Episcopal Church, the Berryman Green Chapter of the DAR, the Halifax
Garden Club and the Halifax Woman's Club.
Mrs. Covington is survived by her husband of the home, a daughter,
Lindsey C. Ryan and husband Kevin of Charlottesville, one son,
William
R. Covington, III and wife Margaret of Halifax, five grandchildren,
Katherine Manning Covington of Charlottesville, Edward Lovelace
"Ned"
Covington of Harrisonburg, Ian Covington Ryan of Austin, TX, Anna
Fox
Ryan of Savannah, GA and Eva Gates Ryan of Evanston, IL.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 19 at 11
a.m.
at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jack Nietert
officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed
to
St. John's Episcopal Church or the Halifax County Rescue Squad.

Van Lorenzo Carrington
Mr. Van Lorenzo Carrington, 44, of 1046 Marion Trail, Halifax died
Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at his home. He was born in Halifax County
on
May 18, 1963, a son of Mr. Franklin McArthur Carrington and Mrs.
Rose
Lee Carrington and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Ms.
Lashell
Garrett of South Boston; three brothers, Mr. Alphonso Carrington of
Halifax, Mr. Larry Carrington of Omega, Mr. David Carrington of
Chase
City; four sisters, Mrs. Yvonne Acree of Nathalie, Ms. Jenett
(Jacqueline) Carrington of South Boston, Mrs. Maria Traynham and
Mrs.
Denise Hamlett, both of Scottsburg; two grandchildren, two
brothers-in-law, Mr. Arthur Traynham and Mr. Wayne Hamlett; other
relatives and friends, including Mr. Luther Reed. He was preceded
in
death by one brother, Mr. James Thomas McCraw.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church with Rev. Ronald Claiborne officiating. Burial will
follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday from
12:00-6:00
p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel.
Malcolm "Coon" Womack
Mr. Malcolm "Coon" Womack, 68, of Washington, DC died March 8, 2008
at
Laurel Regency Hospital, Laurel, MD. He was born July 9, 1939 in
Halifax County, a son of the late Jack and Edna Barksdale Womack.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Barley Womack, his sons, Malcolm
Womack, Timothy Womack and daughter-in-law, Neecole Womack, a
daughter,
Brenda Womack Kenny, all of Washington, DC; three brothers, Wilbert
Womack, David Womack and Wayne Womack, all of Washington, DC; two
sisters, Janice Womack Paulette and Celestine Womack of Halifax. He
was preceded in death by five brothers, Eddie Lewis, Jack Jr.,
Clinton
Earl, Wallace and Randy Womack and two sisters, Catherine and Linda
Gayle.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15 at County Line Baptist
Church with Rev. Dr. Otis Dillard officiating. Burial followed in
the
church cemetery.
Samantha Ann Jordan
Miss Samantha Ann Jordan, 18, daughter of Emmett L. Jordan of Nelson
and the late Priscilla Jordan, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 in Duke
Medical Center, Durham, NC. A graduate of Bluestone Senior High
School
with the class of 2007, Samantha was a member of Buffalo Baptist
Church.
In addition to her father, Samantha is survived by her sister, Sarah
Jordan and her brother, Jonathan Jordan, both of Nelson. She is
also
survived by her maternal grandparents, Carolyn Winstead of
Clarksville
and Jay Deal of South Boston; and paternal grandmother, Patricia
Brown
of Richmond.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist
Church with Rev. Jim McAlister officiating. Interment followed in
the
church cemetery.
Helen Thomas Burnett
Mrs. Helen Thomas Burnett of 1097 Seven Oaks Drive, South Boston
died
Friday, March 14, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born November
12,
1920 in Rhodell WV, she was 87 at the time of her death. A member of
the South Boston Church of God, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Burnett is survived by a son, Paul Gleaves Burnette, Jr. of
Danville and a daughter, Karla Burnett Rowe and a special son. L. M.
"Mickey" Rowe of South Boston, four grandchildren and five great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul
Gleaves
Burnett, Sr. and her parents, John Worley Thomas and Mahalah Taylor
Thomas and a son, Ronnie Lee Burnett.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burnett were held on Sunday, March 16 at 2
p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Collins
officiating. Burial followed in Halifax Memorial Gardens. Online

Nancy Lovelace Ferguson
Mrs. Nancy Lovelace Ferguson of 2028 Ridge Road, Vernon Hill died
Friday, March 14, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax
County on November 9, 1939, she was 68 at the time of her death. She
was the daughter of the late Charlie James Lovelace, Sr. and Sally
Francisco Lovelace and was married to Charlie Wayne Ferguson, Sr.
She
retired from Craddock Terry Shoe Corporation and was a member of the
Oak Level Presbyterian Church where she played the piano for many
years. She was also an honorary member of the Ladies Auxiliary for
the
Oak Level Volunteer Fire Department.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her husband of the home, a son, Charles
Ferguson, Jr. of Vernon Hill and his friends, Ann and Lauren
Spangler,
three sisters, Frances L. Satterfield and husband, Joe of South
Boston,
Sadie L. Light and husband, Chuck of Fairfax and Margaret L. Brown
and
husband, Jack of Greensboro, NC and a brother, Charlie James
Lovelace,
Jr. and wife, Coralee of Roanoke, two grandchildren, Travis Ferguson
and wife, Ashley of Vernon Hill and Joshua Ferguson and fiancé'
Sasha
Doss of South Boston, their mother, Jackie Crews of Halifax, special
friends and caregivers, Rontina Coleman, Norma Chandler, Cynthia
Penick
and Adrean Coleman.
A funeral service for Mrs. Ferguson will be held Monday, March 17 at
1
p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Melvin
officiating.
Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will
receive
friends at Powell Funeral Home on Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and
other
times at the home of Charles Ferguson, 1214 Ridge Road, Vernon Hill.

Volunteer Fire Department or the Oak Level Presbyterian Church.
