Obituaries

Mr. George Louis Spencer

Mr. George Louis Spencer of 2012 Crystal Hill Road, Crystal Hill died
Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born October
28, 1923 in Halifax County, he was 84 at the time of his death. He was
the son of the late George Letcher Spencer and the late Clara Crews
Spencer and was married to the late Bernice Perkins Spencer.
Mr. Spencer is survived by a daughter, Pamela Spencer Jennings and
husband, John of Raleigh, NC and one son, Michael Louis Spencer and
wife Patricia of Crystal Hill and three grandchildren, Chase Jennings
of Raleigh, N.C. Jason Spencer and wife, Amy of Phoenix, Arizona and
Travis Spencer, also of Phoenix and a great grandchild Hudson Spencer
of Phoenix.Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Canada and husband, W. A. of
Petersburg and Doris Cole of Virgilina and a brother, Jessie Spencer,
Sr. of Halifax and a special friend, Thomas Miller of Crystal Hill.
A graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 12 at 2
p.m. at the Spencer Family farm cemetery in Crystal Hill with the Rev.
Bob Hurd conducting the service. The family will receive visitors at
the home of his son, Michael Spencer, 1100 Woodchuck Trail, Crystal
Hill on Monday evening, February 11 from 7 until 9 p.m. For memorials,

Mrs. Frances Holt Sims
Mrs. Frances Holt Sims, 58, of 1159 Wagstaff Lane, Scottsburg died
Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born
in Halifax County on December 13, 1949, a daughter of Mrs. Bettie
Easley Holt and the late Mr. Joseph Holt. She was a member of Piney
Grove Baptist Church and employed by Hilden America, Inc.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Mr. Aubrey
Logan; one son, Mr. Cramman Holt of Scottsburg; three daughters, Mrs.
Alesia Ferrell, Ms. Sharon Sims, both of Halifax, Ms. Audrey Sims of
Scottsburg; one stepson, Mr. Charles Womack of Halifax; three brothers,
Mr. James Easley, Mr. Sterling Holt and Mr. Eddie Holt, all of
Scottsburg; five grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Martha Logan;
one son-in-law, Mr. Kevin Ferrell; seven sisters-in-law, one
brother-in-law, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m. at
Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Whitfield Scott officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive
friends at the home, 1159 Wagstaff Lane, Scottsburg.

 

Mrs. Marlene T. Hubbard Slaughter
Mrs. Marlene T. Hubbard Slaughter, 69, of Mebane, NC died January 31,
2008 at her home. She was born April 21, 1938, a daughter of the late
T.H. Tatum, Sr. and Grady Warren Tatum and was married to Richard
Slaughter.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Donna
Thompson and husband Jerry and Debbie Marr, all of Burlington, NC;
three grandchildren, Billy Thompson and wife April, Bryant Duckworth
and Tammy Duckworth; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Thompson; one
sister, Nancy Rimmer and one brother, T.H. Tatum, Jr., both of Mebane,
NC. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie Bryant
Hubbard, one son, Billy Mac Hubbard and two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held today at Walker's Funeral Home, Mebane,
NC with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
