Adelle Johnson Harding
Adelle Johnson Harding of 2194 Hardings Mill Road, Nathalie died
Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was 94
years of age. Mrs. Harding was born in Halifax County on October 13,
1913, the daughter of the late Richard Alonza Johnson and Helen
Myrtle
Conner Johnson and was married to the late Irvin Daniel Harding. She
was a retired teacher's aide and was a lifelong member of Providence
Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a
choir member, president of the Women of the Church director of
Vacation
Bible School and served on various other committees. She was a
charter
member of the Fort Hill Garden Club where she served as president,
flower show chairman and on various other committees. Mrs. Harding
is
survived by one daughter, Miriam Harding Mozingo and husband Van of
Williamsburg and one son, Richard Irvin Harding of Fayetteville, NC,
five grandchildren, Keith Mozingo of Nathalie, Angela Harding Fallen
of
South Boston, Allyson Mozingo of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Jennifer
Davis and husband George of Hope Mills, NC and Daniel Harding and
wife
Katie of Raleigh, NC and four great grandchildren, Brittany Bullard
of
Fayetteville, NC, Morgan and Sydni Davis, both of Hope Mills, NC,
Nell
Harding of Raleigh, NC and a special brother-in-law, Victor G.
Harding
of Nathalie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and two
brothers
and her daughter-in-law, Georgia Crump Harding.
A funeral service for Mrs. Harding will be held Monday, February 4
at
11 a.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Jones
officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Cemetery Fund or the Halifax County Rescue Squad. On-line

Mrs. Catherine Thompson Newton
Mrs. Catherine Thompson Newton of Halifax died Friday, February 1,
2008
at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax County on November 30,
1921, she was 86 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of
the
late Hugh H. Thompson and Mary Ellen Ferrell Thompson and was
married
to the late Wesley Newton. She was a member of Bethel Baptist
Church.
Mrs. Newton is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Mrs. Newton was held on Sunday, February 3
at 3
p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Doug Gibson
officiating. For memorials, please consider the Halifax County

Mr. Charlie Thornton Rice
Mr. Charlie Thornton Rice, 86, of 2513 N. Main Street, South Boston
died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He
was
born in Halifax County on February 13, 1921, a son of the late
Charlie
David Rice and Elizabeth Foster Rice and was married to Charlotte
Osborne Rice. He was a member of McCanless Memorial United
Methodist
Church, was a past Jurisdictional President of Woodmen of the World
in
Virginia and was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Thornton Rice.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 2 at McCanless
Memorial
United Methodist Church with Rev. Ann Norton and Rev. Tommy Reynolds
officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may

Mr. David W, Jewell, Jr
Mr. David W, Jewell, Jr of Kensington, MD, formerly of Halifax
County,
died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at his home. Born November 24, 1944 in
Halifax County, he was 63 at the time of his death. He was the son
of
the late David W. Jewell, Sr. and Kathleen Whitlow Jewell and was
married to Brenda Tyler Jewell who survives him. He is also survived
by
aunts, uncles, many cousins and his faithful companion, Buckaroo.
A memorial service will be held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel on
Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 11 a.m.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at
11
