 Joan Parry Steube
Joan Parry Steube, 71, of Sandston passed away on January 2, 2008.
Born in Liverpool, England, she was predeceased by her husband, William
Gilbert Steube, formerly of South Boston.  She is survived by two
loving, devoted sons, Michael Anthony Steube and David Alan Steube, two
granddaughters, Brittany Steube and Christina Steube, a great-grandson,
Samuel Swearigen, a brother-in-law, Paul M. Steube, of South Boston,
and a niece, Maxine Doyle of England.  In accordance with her wishes,
there will be no funeral.  Arrangements are conducted by Cremation
Society of Virginia.  Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery
at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to
Shriners Childrens Hospital.

 

 Mrs. Mary Seamster Moore
Mrs. Mary Seamster Moore, 84, of Halifax died Monday, January 7, 2008
at The Woodview.  She was born in Halifax County on June 26, 1923, a
daughter of the late Jim Seamster and Rena Lloyd Seamster and was
married to the late Harvey James Moore.
She is survived by four daughters, Janie M. Vaughan and husband Bobby
of Halifax, Irene M. Coates and husband Robert of Williamsburg, Mary M.
Robertson and husband Michael of Sanford, NC, Linda M. Franklin and
husband Lee Roy of Valdese, NC; one son, Robert N. Moore and wife Wanda
of Halifax; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.  She was
preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Randy Williams and Rev. Brian Simmons officiating.
Burial will follow in the Moore Family Cemetery.
 Mr. James Stafford Whitt
Mr. James Stafford Whitt, 80, of 2038 Alphonse Dairy Road, South Boston
died Monday, January 7, 2008 at Berry Hill Nursing Home.  He was born
in Halifax County on February 13, 1927, a son of the late Henry Gabey
Whitt and Elsie Talley Whitt and was married to Alice Keatts Whitt.  He
was an Army veteran of World War II, was Master of the South Boston
Faulkner Memorial Masonic Lodge #91 and was past district deputy of the
37th Masonic District.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Vicki Whitt
Stauffer and husband Robert of Roanoke, Debbie Lynn Whitt Schubert of
Richmond; one sister, Tina Martin of Dayton, OH; two brothers, Marvis
Grey Whitt of Dayton, OH and Thomas Delanor Whitt of Goochland County.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Muriel Whitt Jackson.
Graveside services will be held Friday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. at
Halifax Memorial Gardens with Rev. Don Bryant officiating.  The family
will receive friends tonight from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral
Home.  Memorials may be directed to the Halifax County Humane Society,
P.O. Box 969, South Boston, VA 24592.

 

 Mr. Albert Irvin Williams
Mr. Albert Irvin Williams, 78, of 1114 Cherry Hill Church Road, South
Boston died Monday, January 7, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  He
was born in Halifax County on July 21, 1929, a son of the late Mr.
Robert Edward Williams and Mrs. Eunice Crawley Williams.  He was
married to Mrs. Elizabeth Boxley Williams, was an Army veteran and a
member of Owens Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joyce
Claughton of South Boston; four sons, Rev. Michael I. Williams of
Raleigh, NC, Mr. Vincent L. Williams of Austin, TX, Mr. Albert E.
Williams, Sr. of Dallas, TX and Mr. Pevin E. Williams of Fayetteville,
NC; one step-sister, Mrs. Alease Butler of South Boston; nine
grandchildren, four daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Owens
Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Michael I. Williams officiating.  Burial
will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends
tonight from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
