 Mrs. Susie Oliver Clay, 92

Mrs. Susie Oliver Clay, 92, of 4188 Bold Springs Road, South Boston  died Sunday, December 10, 2006 at her home.  She was born in Roxboro, NC on January 10, 1914, a daughter of the late Mr. Alexander Bratcher and Mrs. Sarah Traynham Bratcher.  She was married first to the late Mr. George Oliver, Jr. and later married the late Mr. Charlie Clay and was a member Dan River Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Mr. George Al Oliver, III of South Boston; one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Parker of South Boston; one sister, Mrs. Mildred B. Rogers of South Boston; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one son-in-law, Mr. Stanley Parker of South Boston; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lynnda S. Oliver of South Boston; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at Dan River Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Wilkerson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

 Mr. Walter Carsie Adams, Jr

Mr. Walter Carsie Adams, Jr., 85, of 160 Craddock Street, Halifax died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born in Pittsylvania County on August 17, 1921, a son of the late Walter Carsie Adams and Garnett Augusta Lester Adams and was married to the late Carrie Womack Adams.  He was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by one sister, Carroll Collie of Ringgold; one brother, Carsie Lester Adams of Michigan; one step-son, Jimmy McCourt of Roxboro, NC.

Graveside services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Floral Hills Memory Garden, Danville with Rev. Dr. Michael Parnell officiating.

 Mr. Lawrence Robert Davis

Mr. Lawrence Robert Davis, 91, of Summit Drive, South Boston died Monday, December 11, 2006 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born in Pittsylvania County on November 13, 1915, a son of the late John Davis and Marjorie Stanley Davis and was married to the late Lula Kreger Davis.  He was a member of South Boston Church of God and was owner and operator of Crossroads Grocery, Christy.

He is survived by one son, Harry L. Davis and wife Linda of South Boston; five daughters, Shirley D. New and husband Earl of Norfolk, Judy D. Carmichael and husband Lloyd of South Boston, Carolyn D. Wilson and husband Wayne of South Boston; Gayle D. Powell and husband Gene of Halifax; Pam D. and Ronnie Ratliff of Halifax; one sister, Flora Arthur of South Boston; one brother, Obed Davis of Ringgold; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Bruce Hagy officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.

 Mr. James Jackson Sydnor

Mr. James Jackson Sydnor, 66, of Virgilina died Monday, December 11, 2006 at his home.  He was born in Halifax County on March 22, 1940, a son of the late Mr. George Sydnor and Mrs. Mamie Roberts Sydnor and was married to Mrs. Christine R. Sydnor.  He was a member of White Oak Folk Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Netrica S. Lipscomb of South Boston and Mrs. Nenell D. Sydnor of Virgilina; one son, Mr. Nitzy D. Sydnor of Virgilina; five sisters, Mrs. Salley Williams of Bridgeport, CT, Mrs. Evaughn Wilkins, Mrs. Elnora Jordan, Mrs. Truett Richardson and Mrs. Dorothy Fountain, all of Virgilina; five grandchildren, three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, one son-in-law, Mr. Ronald C. Lipscomb, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Crawford House Chapel, Halifax with Rev. James Whitt Lester officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.

 Mr. John Henry Bostick, Sr

Mr. John Henry Bostick, Sr., 84, of South Boston died Friday, December 8, 2006 at Alexandria Hospital Center.  He was born in Halifax County on July 28, 1922, a son of the late Mr. Josh Bostick and Mrs. Lizzie Richardson and was married to the late Mrs. Mary Anna Edmunds.  He was a member of Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Church.

He is survived by three daughters, Ms. Ida Bostick of Alexandria, Ms. Sarah Cross and Ms. Betty Allen, both of Largo, MD; two sons, Mr. John Bostick, Jr. of Alexandria and Mr. Wayne Bostick of Washington, DC; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bernice Bostick and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Victoria Bostick, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Church with Rev. Evon Bush officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Paul C.M.E. Church Cemetery.

 Ms. Charlene Faulkner Ridgeway

Ms. Charlene Faulkner Ridgeway, 43, of Bowie, MD, formerly of South Boston, died at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD.  She was born in South Boston on September 26, 1963, a daughter of Mr. Daniel C. Faulkner and Mrs. Jennie Elam Faulkner.  She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, was a graduate of Hampton University and was employed with Kassman and Kaplan Law Firm, Washington, DC.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one son, Mr. Branden Ridgeway of Bowie, MD; a college roommate, Dr. Evette Atkins of Georgia; a friend, Mr. Richard Peggues of Suitland, MD, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Crawford House Chapel.

 Nicholas Peter Anderson,

Nicholas Peter Anderson, son of Karen P. Anderson and Peter Anderson of South Boston, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at Danville Regional Medical Center.  He was born Monday, December 11, 2006 and in addition to his parents, is survived by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Mavis Phillips of South Boston; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Leanore Anderson of South Boston; one sister, Samantha Leeann Anderson and two brothers, James Dillon Anderson and Ryan Wallace Anderson, all of South Boston and numerous aunts and uncles.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Sidney DeLaine Anderson.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, December 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Phil Showers officiating.
