Florence Torian Green

Florence Torian Green, 101, of 5107 Dryburg Road, Scottsburg died November 26, 2006, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Green was born in Halifax County on November 1, 1905, to the late Jacob Torian and Alice Carden Torian, and was married to the late Paul Green. She was a member of Spanish Grove Baptist Church.Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Carden of Scottsburg; two sons, Cleophas Green and Staint Paul Green Jr., both of Scottsburg; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Green will be held December 1, at 2 p.m. at Spanish Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Womack officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends at the home of Marilyn Carden, 4154 Dryburg Road, Scottsburg.

Georgia Elaine Dodson

Georgia Elaine Dodson, 41, of Lawton, Okla., formerly of South Boston, died November 27, 2006, at her home.
Mrs. Dodson was born in Halifax County on March 15, 1965, to Tajpaultaiwana Dorothy Garland and Mitchell Carrington, and was married to David O. Dodson Sr.
Survivors include two sons, David Dodson and Mario Dodson, both of Lawton; her mother of Lawton; her father of Halifax; three sisters, Lepena T. Fielteau of Lawton, Amy Brooks of South Boston and Dr. Pamela Cooper of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Robert J. Clark II of Lawton and Eric Carrington of Jacksonville; one God-son, Christopher K. Borno of Lawton; three brothers-in-law, Frank Fielteau of Lawton, Donnell Brooks of South Boston and Terry Cooper of Jacksonville; and one sister-in-law, Rosa Clark of Lawton.
Memorial services for Mrs. Dodson will be held December 3, at 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Wilkerson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church Sunday.

William Allen Staten

William Allen Staten, 55, of 4064 Clover Road, Clover died November 29, 2006, at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Mr. Staten was born in Halifax County on March 16, 1951, to Nephew Staten and Alice Carden Staten. He was a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Monica Staten of Durham, N.C.; two sons, William Staten Jr. of Alexandria and Demetrius Staten of Danville; his parents; two brothers, Ralph Staten of South Boston and James Staten of Richmond; six sisters, Vivian Collins of Oakland, Calif., Rosa Perkins of Newport News, Alice Faye Brown and Odessa Crews, both of Temple Hills, Md., Mable Haddock and Brenda Staten, both of New York City; three grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Shontai Staten.
Funeral services for Mr. Staten will be held tomorrow, December 2, at 2 p.m. at Zion Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jefferson Goode officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home.

 

Jack Randolph McDowell Jr.

Jack Randolph McDowell Jr., 62, of Celebration, Fla., formerly of South Boston, died November 23, 2006, at the Florida Hospital at Celebration Health.
Mr. McDowell was born March 25, 1944, in Bristol, the son of the late Jack Randolph McDowell Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Bailey McDowell, and was married to Margaret Lacks McDowell. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired from IBM after 24 years as an electrical engineer and computer programmer.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary Margaret McDowell of Celebration; and one brother, James A. McDowell and wife, Elena, of Raleigh, N.C.
Funeral services for Mr. McDowell were held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel on November 27, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Greenwood officiating. Burial followed at Oak Ridge Cemetery.Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider a charity of choice.

Roy Richard Doss Jr.

Roy Richard Doss Jr., 78, of Virginia Beach died November 20, 2006 in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Mr. Doss was born August 2, 1928, in South Boston to the late Roy Richard Doss Sr. and Dora Martha Wilkerson Doss.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Hutchinson Doss; his daughters, Vickie Andrus of Ceres, Calif. and Susan Smith of Suffolk; his son, Richard Doss of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Elsie Worsham, Virginia Murden, Trudy Marsh and Shirley Lambka; and one brother, Lonnie Doss.
Besides his parents, Mr. Doss was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Johnson; and a brother, Lawrence Doss.
A funeral service was held November 25, at 1 p.m. at Maestas & Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia Beach with the Rev. Richard Yates officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in Princess Anne Memorial Park.
