Mrs. Laura Ferrell Chandler
Mrs. Laura Ferrell Chandler, 56, of 3171 Ball Park Loop,
Halifax, died November 24, 2006 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Halifax County on December 29, 1949 and was the daughter
of the late Mr. Alfred J. Ferrell and Mrs. Harriett Theresa Williams Ferrell.
She was married to Mr. Thurman R. Chandler, was a member of Wesley Chapel C.M.E.
Church and a former employee of Tultex, Inc.In addition to her husband, she is
survived by one daughter, Ms. Lori Chandler of South Boston; two sons, Mr.
Rodney Chandler of South Boston and Mr. Steve Chandler of Halifax; five
grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Delores Logan of Vernon Hill, Ms. Thelma
Ferrell, Mrs. Gwendolyn Jennings and Mrs. Lisa Chandler, all of Halifax; two
brothers, Mr. James Ferrell of Vernon Hill and Mr. Elmer Ferrell of Halifax; a
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Tangela Chandler and a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Ferrell Chandler will be
held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. with services at the Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church with
Bishop William Howerton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Ms. Sharon Terry Miller
Ms. Sharon Terry Miller, 50, of 1120 Union Grove Road,
South Boston died Monday, November 20, 2006 at South Boston Manor.
She was born in Halifax County on December 16, 1955, daughter of Mr.
Wallace Terry, Sr. and Mrs. Cecil Harris Terry.
She was first married to Mr. Walter Jerome Miller and later married Mr.
Theodore E. Johnson and was a member of New Vernon Baptist Church.In addition to
her parents, she is survived by four sons, Mr. DeShaye Terry of Riverside, CA,
Mr. Andre Miller of Woodbridge, Mr. Tymothy Johnson and Mr. Rondale Johnson,
both of New Orleans, LA; one sister, Ms. Evon Terry of South Boston; two
brothers, Mr. Wallace Terry, Jr. of Clinton, MD and Mr. Gary Terry of South
Boston; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Crissundra Terry; one sister-in-law, Mrs.
Magalene Terry; five grandchildren, other relatives and friends.Funeral services
were held Saturday, November 25 at 1:00 p.m. at New Vernon Baptist Church with
Rev. Dr. Roger Ford officiating. Burial
followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Donald (Don) Puckett Thompson
Mr. Donald Puckett Thompson, 67, of 602 Dundee Lane, South
Boston died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Duke University Medical Center.
He was born in Lynchburg on August 18, 1939, son of the late Kermit Levi
Thompson and Bessie Puckett Thompson and was married to Sandra McDowell
Thompson. He was a member of First
Baptist Church of South Boston, on the South Boston Town Council, was in the
Halifax-South Boston Sports Hall of Fame and was a retired coach and Athletic
Director. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Sherry
Thompson Saunders and husband Doug W. of Forest, Kim Thompson Hall and husband
Tony of Forest, Mary Catherine Thompson of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren; one
sister, Brenda Thompson Clements of Homestead, FL.Funeral services were held
Saturday, November 25 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Tim
Cannon officiating. Burial followed
in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorials

Mr. Ernest S. Hall,
Mr. Ernest S. Hall, Jr., 56, of Gladys died November 19,
2006 in Charlottesville. He was the
son of Mrs. Louella Hall and the late Mr. Ernest Hall, Sr.In addition to his
mother, he is survived by his wife, Kathy Ferguson Hall of Lynchburg; two sons,
Arnesto D. Hall and Akio K. (Sherice) Hall of Charlotte, NC; one daughter,
Clarissa McCullen of Patterson, NJ; one step-son, Donte' Ferguson of Lynchburg;
nine grandchildren; two brothers, George "Rocky" (Sharon) Hillman, Sr.
of Rustburg, Thomas T. Hall (Ivory Martin) of Gladys; mother-in-law, Mrs.
Cathryn Ferguson of Lynchburg; father-in-law, Mr. Clyde D. Ferguson of Newport
News; three aunts, two uncles, two great-aunts a devoted friend, Betty Bailey;
other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held November 25 at Ellis
Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Featherston officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Mattie Venable Williams
Mrs. Mattie Venable Williams died Monday, November 20, 2006
at Berry Hill Nursing Home. She was
born in Halifax County on October 29, 1927, daughter of the late John S. Venable
and Annie Womack Venable.She is survived by her husband, Acrea Williams of the
home; her daughter, Marion Carden of Lynchburg; her son-in-law, Royal Carden of
Lynchburg; four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, other relatives and
friends, including the devoted Stephanie Hubbard of Halifax.Funeral services
were held Friday, November 24 at County Line Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Otis
Dillard officiating.
Jack Randolph McDowell
Mr. Jack Randolph McDowell, Jr., 62, of Celebration, FL,
formerly of South Boston, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Florida Hospital
at Celebration Health. He was born
March 25, 1944 in Bristol, son of the late Jack Randolph McDowell, Sr. and Mary
Elizabeth Bailey McDowell and was married to Margaret Lacks McDowell.
He was a retired electrical engineer and computer programmer with IBM.In
addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mary Margaret McDowell of
Celebration, FL and one brother, James A. McDowell and wife Elena of Raleigh,
NC.Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Bill Greenwood officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.
