Mrs. Virginia Cobbs McPhail
Mrs. Virginia Cobbs McPhail, 95, of Spring Avenue, South
Boston died November 19, 2006 at the Woodview.
She was born in Danville on November 24, 1910, a daughter of the late Mr.
Peter Cobbs and Mrs. Victoria Brewer Cobbs and was married to the late Mr.
Patrick Henry McPhail. She was a
member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and owned and operated G&W Grill in
Downtown South Boston.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lauretta M. Martin of
South Boston; grandchildren, Dr. Patrick McPhail Martin and wife Sharla of
Nashville, TN, Mr. Bristol Martin, III of Silver Springs, MD, Dr. Georgette H.
McRay and husband James of Raleigh, NC and Ms. Gloria D. Hill of Chesapeake; one
son-in-law, Mr. Bristol Martin, Jr. of South Boston; a devoted friend, Mrs. Mary
B. Kent of South Boston. She was
preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Virnetta M. Hill.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 24 at 11:00
a.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. James M. Crowder officiating.
Burial will follow in the Rose Garden Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held today from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.
Mr. Ernest Goldman (E.G.) Blanks
Mr. Ernest Goldman (E.G.) Blanks, Jr., 91, of 2231
Leda-Grove Road, Nathalie died Monday, November 20, 2006 at his home.
He was born October 17, 1915 in Halifax County, a
son of the late Ernest Goldman Blanks, Sr. and Ludie Clements Blanks and
was married to the late Doris Wade Blanks.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Republican Grove and was a
World War II Army Veteran.
He is survived by one daughter, Joan Blanks Burton and
husband James of Nathalie; one son, Larry Wade Blanks and wife Pam of Nathalie;
seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Burton, Jennifer Keller, Julie Stevens, Amy Holt,
Vanessa Keeton, Melody Breedlove, Meriah Jones and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ryland T. and Luther Blanks and
two sisters, Grace Wilkins and L.G. Blanks Anderson.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at First
Baptist Church of Republican Grove with Rev. Shelton Miles, III officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hinton James Heath, Sr
Mr. Hinton James Heath, Sr., 92, of 6224 Dryburg Road,
Scottsburg died Monday, November 20, 2006 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Halifax County May 11, 1914, a son of the late James
Hinton Heath and Beatrice Snead Heath and was married to Ruth Guill Heath.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters,
Ann H. Chaney and husband Ed of South Boston, Deborah H. Walden of Halifax,
Janet H. Blevins and husband Jay of Scottsburg; three sons, Hinton Heath, Jr.
and wife Betty of Clover, Aubrey Heath and wife Margie of Scottsburg, Glen Heath
and wife Linda of Memphis, TN; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and
one great-great-grandchild. He was
preceded in death by one brother, Charles "Buster" Heath, one grandson
Curtis Heath, one great-grandson, Kevin Hatcher and one son-in-law David Walden.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 24 at 2:00
p.m. at Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Bunce officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powell
Funeral Home. Memorials may be

Stephen Wayne "Stevie" Wilborn,
Stephen Wayne "Stevie" Wilborn, 44, of 100 Robin
Hood Road, South Boston died Monday, November 20, 2006 at Halifax Regional
Hospital. He was born in South
Boston on April 11, 1960, a son of Mrs. Doris Yates Wilborn and the late Erdis
T. Wilborn. He was a member of
South Boston Church of God and was the last owner of Wilborn's Bar-B-Que,
Cluster Springs.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his
grandmother, Mazy Carver Wilborn of South Boston; one sister, Debra W. Stewart
and husband Delton of Roxboro, NC; niece, Krystal K. Stewart and uncle, Phillip
Wilborn. He was preceded in death
by his grandfathers, Algie Willard Wilborn, Aubrey Roosavelt Yates and his
grandmother, Fannie Frances Yates.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Brooks
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Bruce Hagy and Rev. Norman Talley officiating.
Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Shirley Ann Wilson Carmichael,
Shirley Ann Wilson Carmichael, 70, of 4035 Wilson Road,
Virgilina died Monday, November 20, 2006 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born in Halifax County on April 23, 1936, a daughter of the late
Asa Jerry Wilson and Emma Sue Long and was married to the late Samuel T.
Carmichael. She was a member of
Florence Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and member of the
WMU and was a former Sunday school teacher and nursery attendant.
She is survived by a step-son, Doug Carmichael and wife
Sharon of Melbourne, FL; five sisters, Zuline Lowery, Thelma Wilson, Cecil Tuck,
Nancy Young, all of Virgilina and Virginia Cumbey of South Boston; one brother,
C.J. Wilson of Virgilina; grandchildren John William Carmichael, Karri C. Evans,
Kristi C. Walls, Kelli C. Lajoie, Mikayla Carmichael, Jamison Carmichael,
Makenna Carmichael; five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas R. Carmichael.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 25 at
11:00 a.m. at Florence Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Sean McKenzie
officiating. Burial will follow in
the Shady Grove U.M.C. Cemetery. The
family will receive friends Friday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to Florence Avenue Baptist Church Building
Fund.
