Mr. Raleigh Hensley Davis

Mr. Raleigh Hensley Davis, 75, of 5027 Mountain Road, Halifax died Sunday, November 12, 2006 at his home.  He was born in Pittsylvania County on May 16, 1031, a son of the late William Daniel Davis and Annie Ruth Ricketts Davis and was married to Ruth Elnora Overstreet Davis.  He was a member of Halifax Baptist Church.In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Bill Davis and wife Judy of Bainbridge, GA, Steve Davis and wife Teresa of Halifax, Tommy Davis and wife Debbie of Cluster Springs; one daughter-in-law, Kim Davis of Scottsburg; grandchildren, Kenney Ray, Teresa, Robbie, Mickie, Vickie, Emily, Sara, Ashley, Maribeth, Kelli, Jamie and Cody; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Dex, Seth, Gabe and Dani; two sisters, Elsie and Frank Anderson of Halifax and Annie Maude "Sis" Taylor of Danville.  He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Lee Davis and one grandchild, Adam Davis, three sisters, Mattie Lee Redd, Mary Womack and Odell Martin, four brothers, Willie Nathan Davis, Matthew Daniel Davis, Otha Thomas Davis and Sixty Barksdale Davis.Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Bucklew officiating.  Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.  Memorials may be directed to the Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875, South Boston, VA 24592 or the Halifax County Rescue Squad, 700 Hamilton Blvd., South Boston, VA 24592.

Mr. Neil Truman Guthrie

Mr. Neil Truman Guthrie, 86, of 12165 L.P. Bailey Highway died Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home, Lynchburg.  He was the husband of Lenell Garner Guthrie.  He was born in Halifax County on April 1, 1920, a son of the late Archer James Guthrie and Lena Roark Guthrie.  He was a retired building contractor and real estate broker.In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, James Franklin Guthrie and wife Lois.  He was preceded in death by three sisters, Cordie G. Crews, Clarice G. Lewis and Elaine G. Fisher and three brothers, Clinton C. Guthrie, Ray T. Guthrie and Elred J. Guthrie.Graveside services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at McKendree Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Brian Simmons and Rev. Tim Earnhardt officiating.  Memorials may be directed to the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home, P.O. Mr. L.G. Garner

Mr. L.G. Garner, 65, of Nathalie died November 13, 2006 in Nathalie.  He was born in Halifax County, son of Mrs. Rosa Tisdale Garner Davis and the late Mr. Acie Garner and was married to Mrs. Sylvia J. Garner.In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two sons, Elgie Lionel (Tanya) Garner and Shawn Lamont Garner of Charlotte, NC; four sisters, Lillian M. (Raymond) Espinoza, Barbara G. (John Allen) Jennings and Cornelia G. (Richard) Jennings, all of Nathalie and Emma L. Davis of Washington, DC; two grandchildren, Maya Alexandria and Christian Major Garner; two aunts, Geneva Logan and Irene Garner, one uncle, James Tisdale, and other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. at New Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Sylvester Crawley officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lillian Conner Trickey

Mrs. Lillian Conner Trickey, 80, of South Boston died Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born August 16, 1926 in Halifax County, she was a member of Cherry Hill United Methodist Church and was a retiree of J.P. Stevens.Mrs. Trickey is survived by two daughters, Hazel Ricketts and husband, Garland of South Boston and Cathie Howerton and husband, Jerry of Winston Salem, NC; grandchildren, Jerry Howerton, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Colfax, NC, Brandi Sconzo and husband, Steven of Wake Forest, Patricia Ricketts of South Boston; great-grandchildren, Daniel Melton and Donald Melton, both of Roxboro, NC, Abbygail Howerton and Aiden Howerton, both of Colfax, NC and Lilliana Sconzo of Wake Forest, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Trickey, her parents, Stanhope Conner and Kate Reagan Conner, a granddaughter, Donna Melton, two brothers and four sisters.A funeral service for Mrs. Trickey will be held at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, November 14 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Norman Talley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at her home.
