Obituaries

Mrs. Faye Wilborn Gray of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Durham, NC died
Friday, April 27, 2007 at her home. Born February 18, 1924 in South
Boston, she was 83 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of
the late Truett M. Wilborn and Lillian W. Wilborn and was married to
the late Cecil Robins Gray, Jr. She was a member of the Watts Street
Baptist Church in Durham, N.C.
Mrs. Gray is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Maryanne Gray Porrett and
husband, Anthony of Raleigh, NC, a son, Mr. Cecil Robbins Gray, III and
wife, Sherrie of The Forks, Maine, four grandchildren, Katie Kristina
Gray and Melanie Faye Gray, both of Portland, Maine, Jeremy Allen Gray
of Bingham, Maine and Nina Simone Porrett of Raleigh, NC and one
sister, Peggy Wilborn Claycomb of South Boston.
A graveside service for Mrs. Gray will be conducted on Wednesday, May 2
at 12 noon at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. T. Melvyn Williams
officiating. Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home, South
Boston from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. For memorials, please

Mr. Giles Edwin "Jolly" Jones, Jr. 35, of 1090 Ashcroft Place, South
Boston died Friday, April 27, 2007 as a result of a motor vehicle
crash. Born in Halifax County on February 12, 1972, he was employed by
Progress Energy and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Cathy Farrar Jones of South Boston,
his parents, Giles E. Jones, Sr. and Brenda Powell Jones of Vernon
Hill, his children, Lainey, Layne, Christian and Jordan of the home and
his grandfather, Andrew Vaughan of Scottsburg. Also surviving are four
sisters, Suzanne Jones and Wendy Jones, both of Vernon Hill, Lisa Moore
of Scottsburg and Rhonda Moore of Roxboro, NC and a number of nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elise P. Vaughan, his
grandfather, J. Howard Jones and his grandmother, Sylvia S. Jones.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced

Mr. Dorsey Lee Daniel, 91, of 1817 Chamberlain Street, South Boston
died Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was
born in Pittsylvania County on January 8, 1916, a son of the late
Joseph Albert Daniel and Bertha Lee Griffin Daniel and was married
first to Virginia Franklin Daniel and then to Mildred Solomon Daniel.
He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church, American Legion Post 8,
VFW Post 8243, WOW Camp #106 and a Veteran of World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-daughters, Debra
Solomon Girotti and husband Tom of Staunton, Betty Lou Solomon of
Greenville, SC; four step-grandchildren, Micha Girotti and wife
Elizabeth, Hannah Girotti, Sarah Girotti; one sister-in-law, Thelma
Daniel; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two
sisters, Eva Daniel and Ruby Arrington and two brothers, Martin
Franklin Daniel and Harry Wilson Daniel.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 28 at Centerville Baptist
Church with Rev. Richard Saunders officiating. Burial followed in Oak
Ridge Cemetery with Military Rites.
 
Mr. Howard Grinnan, 80, of 1078 Lackstown Road, Clover died Tuesday,
April 24, 2007 at Medical College of Virginia. He was born in Halifax
County on July 9, 1926, a son of the late Mr. William Grinnan and Mrs.
Adlissa Grinnan and was married to Mrs. Corinne Lacks Grinnan. He was
a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Mr. Clinton
Alphonso Grinnan of South Boston, Mr. Lester Gerald Grinnan of Beacon,
NY and Mr. Robin Terry Grinnan of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Mr.
Shirley Grinnan, two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Sturdivant and Mrs. Marie
Heard; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three
daughters-in-law, one sister-in-law, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m. at St.
Matthew Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Whitfield Scott officiating.
Burial followed in the Lacks Family Cemetery.
 
Mr. Mitchell Jasper Blanks, 81, of 2123 Link Puryear Road, South Boston
died Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was
born in Halifax County on April 16, 1926, and was married to the late
Jeanne Bouchez Blanks. He was an Army World War II veteran and retiree
of Burlington Industries.
He is survived by three sons, Jimmy M. Blanks and wife Sandra of
Roxboro, NC, Berkley G. Blanks and wife Catherine of Greensboro, NC,
Garry S. Blanks and wife Deborah of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren,
Travis Blanks and wife Heather, Justin Blanks and wife Tifine, Yvette
Crews, Kelly Blanks, Susan B. Park and husband Michael and Michael
Blanks; great-grandchildren, Trace Crews, Hailey Blanks, Taylor Blanks,
Cole Blanks; one brother, Marshall Blanks and wife Anna of Alton; one
sister, Peggy Richardson of Richmond.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. James Watson officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.
 
Mrs. Stephanie Ann Arrington Hite, 29, wife of Danny Preston Hite, Jr.
died April 27, 2007 in Southampton County. The daughter of Earnest Lee,
Jr. and Maria Scwill Arrington, she was a graduate of Bluestone High
School with the Class of 1995. She attended Southside Community College
and was a member of Saint Catherines Catholic Church. She was a sales
representative with LG Electronic and Brown Rogers Dixon in
Winston-Salem, NC.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30 in the chapel of
Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with Father Silvio Kaeria officiating.
Interment will follow in Oakhurst cemetery.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Stephanie is survived by
her children, Sylvia Clyrsia Katherina Hite and Dillon Preston Hite of
the home, sisters, Michelle Maria Lloyd, Andrea Regina Gravitt and
Tiffany Sasha Arrington, all of Clarksville. Also surviving are her
maternal grandmother, Regina Scwill of Dalum, Germany, paternal
grandmother, Ruth Eileen Higgins Arrington of Clarksville and mother
and father-in-law, Lonie Bet and Danny Hite of Virgilina. Online

Mrs. Carolyn L. Cole of 1109 Berry Hill Road, South Boston died
Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 64.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 8, 1943 to the late Mr. Sylvester
Younger, Sr. and Mrs. Ernestine C. Buster Younger, she was married to
the late Mr. Timothy Cole of South Boston.
Mrs. Cole is survived by one daughter, Ms. Deborah Younger of South
Boston and three sons, Mr. Gregory Younger of Newark, NJ, Mr. Jerry
Cole and Mr. Clay Cole, both of South Boston, 15 grandchildren, four
great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Anita L. Jackson of Newark, NJ,, a
brother, Mr. Sylvester Younger, Jr. of South Boston, a son-in-law, Mr.
Alejandro West of South Boston, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Constance
Younger of Newark, NJ, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Donna Younger and Mrs.
Reathie Woody, both of South Boston and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a
sister, Hameedah Faried.
A funeral service for Mrs. Cole will be conducted Monday, April 30 at 2
p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Crowder
officiating. Public viewing will be at Jeffress Funeral Home chapel on
Monday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at
the home, 1109 Berry Hill Road, South Boston.
