Obituaries Louise Patterson Slayton
Mrs. Louise Patterson Slayton, 87, of 503 Third Street, South
Boston
died Friday, April 20, 2007 at The Woodview. Born in South Boston
on
March 17, 1920, she was a retired bookkeeper for Beth Car Baptist
Church in Halifax, the Halifax County Community Action, Powell
Motor
Company, Maddox Oil Company and the South Boston-Halifax County
Museum.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was a charter
member
and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 8243 and
was a
member of the Ladies Bridge Club.
Mrs. Slayton is survived by two sons, William H. "Willie" Slayton,
Jr.
and Samuel S. "Bo" Slayton, both of Richmond and a daughter, Sally
Llewellyn Slayton, also of Richmond, grandchildren, Tommy,
Michelle,
Hunter, Erin, Charles and Ashley and great grandchildren, Matthew,
Tyrese, Chase and Madison. She was preceded in death by her
parents,
Hannah Sutor Patterson and John Gilmore Patterson and three
brothers,
John, Von and Sam Patterson.
A funeral service for Mrs. Slayton was conducted on Sunday
afternoon,
April 22 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dale Custer and the Rev. Dr. Martha
Conner
officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge cemetery. The family
received friends following the service at the South Boston-Halifax
County Museum on Sunday afternoon. Those wishing to give memorials

Ms. Leda Mae Whitlow Tussey
Ms. Leda Mae Whitlow Tussey, 62, of 406 Oak Lane, South Boston
died
Saturday, April 21, 2007 at South Boston Manor. Born in Halifax
County
on April 11, 1945, she was the kitchen manager and cook at Golden
Skillet.
Ms. Tussey is survived by two daughters, Tina Tussey of Raleigh,
NC and
Carolyn Rickmond of Vernon Hill and four grandchildren, Troy
Tussey,
Kelsey Pulliam, Dena Rickmond and Ronald Lee Rickmond, Jr. Also
surviving are two sisters, Helen Francis and Catherine Robertson,
both
of South Boston and two brothers, Jessie Whitlow, also of South
Boston
and Gene Whitlow of Chase City.
A memorial service for Ms. Tussey will be conducted on Tuesday,
April
24 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack
Stewart
officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials
be
made to Halifax Regional Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Avenue, South
Boston. On

Edward "Ned" Parker Snead
Mr. Edward "Ned" Parker Snead of South Boston died Saturday, April
21,
2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax County, he was
83 at
the time of his death. He was the son of Harry Snead and Virginia
Bomar
Snead and was married to the late Sally Coleman Snead.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time and will be
announced
later by Powell Funeral Home.
