Obituaries Ms. Geneva Yvonne Fowlkes
Ms. Geneva Yvonne Fowlkes of Baltimore, MD died March 25, 2007 at
Sinai
Hospital in Baltimore at the age of 84. Born in McDowell County,
West
Virginia on July 17, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Mr.
Matthew
H. Fowlkes and Mrs. Lena Owens Fowlkes. Mrs. Fowlkes is survived
by a
sister, Mrs. Idella Stanton of Baltimore, MD and an aunt, Ms.
Helen
Goode of New Jersey and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and friends.
A graveside service for Mrs. Fowlkes will be conducted on Tuesday,
April 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the Coleman Family cemetery, Highway 96,
Virgilina. The family will receive friends at the graveside on
Tuesday.
Mrs. Mattie Lucille Hammock
Mrs. Mattie Lucille Hammock Moore of Union Church Road, Halifax
died
Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was
born in
Halifax County on May 2, 1932 and was 74 at the time of her death.
She
was the daughter of the late Charlie Q. Hammock and Rose Davis
Hammock
and was married to the late Ellis Linwood Moore, Sr. She was a
member
of Union United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Moore is survived by two daughters, Debbie Hall Newton of
Danville
and Jackie Moore Jones and husband Michael of Keeling, three sons,
Ronald Thomas Hall and wife Ann of Charlottesville, Glenn L. Hall
and
wife, Barbara of Vernon Hill and Ellis L. Moore, Jr. and wife
Linda of
Halifax, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband and one son, Michael E. Hall.
A graveside service for Mrs. Moore will be conducted on Tuesday,
April
3 at 11 a.m. at Halifax Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev.
Richard
Saunders officiating. The family will receive friends at Powell
Funeral
Home Monday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home
of
Glenn Hall, 11243 Mountain Road, Vernon Hill. For memorials please

Mrs. Mary Tuck Hite
Mrs. Mary Tuck Hite, 86, widow of Harrison Hite died Friday, March
30,
2007 in Halifax Regional Hospital. The daughter of Willie Edwin
and
Hettie Redd Tuck, she was a graduate of the Class of 1940 of
Clarksville High School. She was retired from Burlington
Industries
with 35 years of service and was a member of Gravel Hill Baptist
Church.
A funeral services for Mrs. Hite will be conducted on Monday,
April 2
at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in
Clarksville with the Rev. Rodney Barwick officiating. Burial will
follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Hite is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and
Sammie
Bass of Nelson, grandchildren, Canadas Bass of Winston-Salem, NC
and
Christopher Bass of Dumfries. Also surviving are sisters, Virginia
T.
Yancey of South Boston and Margaret T. Thompson of Richmond. She
was
predeceased by sister, Pearl T. Morris and brothers, Willie E.
Tuck,
Jr. and Herbert H. Tuck. For memorials please consider

Connie Nunn Crowder
Connie Nunn Crowder, 64, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at her
home.
She was the daughter the late Chalmers Morton "Coon" Sr. and Reba
Palmer Nunn and was a graduate of Bluestone High School and West
Hampton College of University of Richmond. She was a teacher at
Bluestone High School and founder of Clarksville Baptist Church
Preschool.
She is survived by her husband, Richard William "Billy" Crowder;
daughters and sons-in-law, Kipley C. and Russell Killen of
Knightdale,
NC and Kendal C. and Bret Bowman of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Sandra
N.
Wallace of South Boston; a brother, Dr. Chalmers Morton Nunn, Jr.
of
Lynchburg; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Timothy's
Episcopal Church with Rev. Susan Grimm officiating.
Mr. Kenneth Poindexter
Mr. Kenneth Poindexter, 80, of Scottsburg died March 29, 2007 at
Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born February 2, 1927, a son of
the
late Willie Waller and Bessie Poindexter and was married to Edna
Buster
Poindexter. He was a member of New Hope C.M.E. Church, the "Do
Drop
Boys" Hunt Club and a 38 year employee of Powell Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Buster Poindexter of Scottsburg;
four
daughters, Wanda P. Canada and husband Harry of Halifax, Vickie
Poindexter of Richmond, Renorma Marlene P. Majors and husband
Kenneth
of Virginia Beach, Laura P. Harding and husband William of
Richmond;
two sons, Edward Poindexter of Scottsburg, Kent Poindexter and
wife
Annie of Richmond; five sisters, Ada Bailey and Kathleen Bailey,
both
of Halifax, Pat Waller, Jenny Waller and Jane Waller, all of
Richmond;
three brothers, Raymond Poindexter of Halifax, Harry Waller and
Willie
"Sugarman" Waller, both of Richmond; 15 grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren; devoted nephew, Walter Bailey of Halifax;
honorary
friends, Spence, Wilbert Buster and Roosevelt Garrett and the
grateful
staff of Powell Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by one son,
Albert Oliver Poindexter and five brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 1 at 3:00 p.m. at New
Hope
C.M.E. Church with Rev. Dr. Betty A. Boston and Rev. Kent
Poindexter
officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may

Mr. Gerald Lee Martin
Mr. Gerald Lee Martin, 75, of 1211 Crystal Hill Road, Crystal Hill
died
Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born
in
Halifax County on June 26, 1931, a son of the late Fitzhugh Lee
Martin
and Evelyn Brown Martin and was married to Esther Hamlett Martin.
He
was a member of Crystal Hill Southern Baptist Church and was a
U.S.
Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Kenneth Martin
and
wife Becky of Crystal Hill; one daughter, Bonnie M. Francis and
husband
Keith of Nathalie; one brother, Carlyle Martin and wife Maxine of
Crystal Hill; one sister, Linda Piechota and husband Fran of
Whispering
Pines, NC; and four grandchildren, Mandi Martin, Katherine
Francis,
Dustin Francis, Sandi Francis; many nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by two brothers, Garnett Martin and Davis
Martin.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31 at Crystal Hill
Southern
Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Griffin and Rev. Robert Hurd
officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Marian Conner Gordon
Mrs. Marian Conner Gordon, 88, of 1192 Blane Road, Alton died
Friday,
March 30, 2007 at Berry Hill Nursing Home. She was born May 27,
1918,
a daughter of the late Lemmie Conner and Ruby Wilborn Conner and
was
married to the late Calvin P. Gordon. She was a member of Alton
Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Mitchell R. Gordon and wife Melody of
Alton and Donald B. Gordon of Alton; two sisters, Jean Pool of
Goldsboro, NC and Artie C. Schweickert of Richmond; one brother,
Glen
Conner of Biloxi, MS; three grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, April 1 at Alton
Baptist
Church Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Ball officiating.
Mrs. Selma Robertson Terry
Mrs. Selma Robertson Terry of 1061 Walker Trail, South Boston died
Friday, March 30, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of
80.
Born in Halifax County on February 2, 1927 to the late Mr. Ernest
Robertson and Mrs. Mattie Downey Robertson, she was married to the
late
Mr. Harold Nepoleon Terry and was a member of White Oak Fork
Baptist
Church.
Mrs. Terry is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Gwendolyn Leigh of
Halifax, Pastor Bessie Watkins of Henderson, NC and Mrs. Sandra
Palmer
of Clover, five sons, Mr. Sherman Terry of South Boston, Mr.
Harold
Terry of Roxboro, NC, Mr. James Terry of Danville, Mr. Lenzy Terry
