Mr. Wanet “Ronnie” Martin
Mr. Wanet “Ronnie” Martin, 55, of Scottsburg, died March 17, 2007.
He
was a retired employee with the Halifax County Landfill and is
survived
by his wife, Joan L. Martin, children, Tammy Simmerman of South
Boston,
Jerald Martin of Scottsburg; mother, Lizzie Mae Badran, South
Boston;
brothers, Hubert Martin of Clays Mill and Ray Martin of Halifax,
Oral
Lloyd of Phenix, Danny Lloyd of Crystal Hill and a grandchild,
Tyler
Martin. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Wood Funeral Service
with Rev.
Everett Mills and Rev. Dewey Barker conducting the service.
Interment
followed in Scottsburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be
made to
the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA
23060.
Mr. Roy E. Hill, S
Mr. Roy E. Hill, Sr., 85, of Chestnut Road, Nathalie died March
18,
2007 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Halifax County,
a
son of the late John and Gillie Hill and was married to Malissie
Saunders Hill. He was a World War II veteran and served with the

AAA Battalion, was a member of the First Baptist Church of
Republican
Grove, where he contributed his baritone voice to their choir and
was a
retired state employee and automobile salesman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Joyce
Simmons
and husband John of Lynchburg; one son, Roy E. Hill, Jr. and wife
Patti
of Cody Road, Nathalie; three grandchildren, Orey Hill, Noah Hill
and
Magen Simmons; one sister, Alice Pruitt of Brookneal; two
brothers-in-law, Louis Saunders and wife Mae of Nathalie and Earl
Saunders and wife Jean of Rustburg; one sister-in-law, Jewel
Simpson of
Durham, NC; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Hill and Johnny Hill
and
two sisters, Jean Deaner and Arlene Bane.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 21 at First Baptist
Church
of Republican Grove with Rev. Shelton Miles, III and Rev. Lee Roy
Davis
officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may
be
directed to First Baptist Church of Republican Grove Building
Fund.
Mrs. Sue Rollins Rudd Boelte
Mrs. Sue Rollins Rudd Boelte died Sunday, March 18, 2007 in Browns
Summit, NC. She was born September 24, 1943 in Greensboro, NC, a
daughter of the late Norman "Doc" and Stell Rudd. She and her
husband
lived briefly at the home of late Louise Boelte in Vernon Hill.
She
was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Greensboro, NC. Sue was
known for her support and encouragement of law enforcement
officers and
criminal justice personnel associated with the North Carolina
Justice
Academy. She is survived by her husband, Edwin R. "Ed" Boelte of
Browns Summit, NC; three children, Edwin R. "Redd" Boelte and wife
Gladys of Browns Summit, NC, Mary Boelte Vaughan and husband Chris
of Glen Ridge, NJ and Peter R. "Pete" Boelte and wife Amanda of
Wilmington, NC and six
grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 21 at
Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Greensboro, NC with Rev. Dan Koenig
officiating. Burial
followed at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery, Vernon Hill.
Deacon Ernest Alford Williamson
Deacon Ernest Alford Williamson, 76, of Halifax died Sunday, March
18,
2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Mecklenburg
County
on June 10, 1930, a son of the late Rev. James Shelly and Sarah
Faulkner Williamson. He was educated in the Mecklenburg County
Public
School System and was a member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church and
was a
retiree of Potts and Callahan Construction Company, Baltimore, MD.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Eliza Williamson of Halifax; one
son,
Deacon Ervin J. Talley (Catherine) of Halifax; one daughter,
Patricia
Mitchell Ball of Pennsylvania; four grandsons and four
granddaughters;
four brothers, John Williamson (Rev. Jessie) of Washington, DC,
James
Williamson (Evelyn) of Colonial Heights, Samuel Williamson
(Willie) of
South Boston and Jerry Williamson (Ann) of Orlando, FL; two
sisters,
Frances W. Newton of Peekskill, NY and Pauline
Williamson-Armstrong of
Orlando, FL; one sister-in-law, Clarine Watkins; a devoted cousin,
Anna
Fuller, a devoted niece, Yvonne Hart, a godson James Butler
(Linda);
the Byrd family, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in
death
by one brother, Henry Watkins and one sister, Heneritta W.
Fountain.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 12:00 at
Cherry
Hill Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction with Rev. Antonel Myler
officiating. Burial will follow in the Williamson family cemetery,
Buffalo Junction. The family will receive friends on Friday
evening at
C.H. Harris Funeral Home, Clarksville from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on
Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Cherry Hill
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Emily Lee Woody
Mrs. Emily Lee Woody, 77, of 1320 Porter Lane, South Boston died
Monday, March 19, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born
in
Halifax County on September 30, 1929, a daughter of the late Mr.
Willie
Lee and Mrs. Mary Grant Strange Lee. She was married to Mr. Thomas
C.
Woody, Sr. and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frances M. Kirby and Mrs.
Willie
Dean Canada, both of South Boston; six sons, Mr. Calvin T. Woody,
Mr.
James E. Woody, Mr. Charles H. Woody, Mr. Tyrone A. Woody, Mr.
Woodrow Woody, all of South Boston and Mr. Larry D. Woody of
Durham, NC; one sister, Mrs. Alice L. Edmonds of Petersburg; one
brother, Mr. General W. Lee of Silver Springs, MD; 25
grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two sons-in-law, Mr. Samuel
Kirby and Mr. Dyrian Canada; six
daughters-in-law, Rev. Shirley Wood, Mrs. Carolyn Woody, Mrs.
Angela
Woody, Mrs. Nicola Woody, Mrs. Isis Woody, Mrs. Jackie Woody;
other
relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one infant
daughter, one son, Mr. George L. Woody, one granddaughter, Ms. Joy
Stephens Woody, two sisters, Ms. Geraldine Woody and Ms. Willie
Mae
Woody. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 1:00
p.m. at
Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. James Carrington officiating.
Burial
will follow in the Rose Garden Cemetery. The family will receive
friends at the home.
Delannie Lowery Terry
Delannie Lowery Terry, 81, of 1163 Memory Lane, Scottsburg died
Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was
born
in Halifax County, March 1, 1926, a daughter of the late Elijah
"Juba"
Lowery and Cara Morris Lowery. She was a member of Black Walnut
Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Sale Knitting.
She is survived by two nephews, Larry Throckmorton of Scottsburg
and
Mel Lowery of Chesapeake; two nieces, Phyllis Hudson of Scottsburg
and
Peggy Downey of Fredericksburg. She was preceded in death by one
son,
Grayling Oral Terry, one brother Ozzy Lowery and one sister,
Beatrice
Throckmorton. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 23 at
2:00 p.m. at Black Walnut Baptist Church with burial to follow in
the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at
Brooks
Funeral Home.
Lewis Hopkins Walker
BUFFALO JUNCTION — Lewis Hopkins Walker, 87, widower of Anna
Drumheller
Walker, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in Durham Regional Hospital.
The
son of Charlie Clarke and Sally Burnett Walker, "Hop" was a
graduate of
Clarksville High School with the Class of 1936. A World War II
Army Air
Corps veteran, he was a supervisor with J.P. Stevens, retiring
with 20+
years service; and was a part-time cattle farmer. Hop attended
Gravel
Hill and Buffalo Baptist churches.
A funeral service for Mr. Walker will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Thursday,
March 22 in the chapel of Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with
the
Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Gravel
Hill
Cemetery. He is survived by a son, Michael Lewis Walker of Buffalo
Junction, a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Hopkins and Shelia
Walker of Roxboro,
NC, a sister, Marion Smith of Aarons Creek and brothers, Mark
Walker of
Buffalo Junction and Bill Walker of Hopewell. Also surviving are
five
grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family will
receive
friends from 7 -9 p.m. Wednesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral
Home.
