Obituaries Mr. John Eric Lipscomb Mr. John Eric Lipscomb, 62, of 1031 Newman Drive, South Boston died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on June 19, 1944, a son of the late Mr. William Lipscomb and Mrs. Frances Satterfield Lipscomb. He was married to Mrs. Nora Bernice Johnson Lipscomb and was a member of Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Ms. Theresa Lipscomb of South Boston, Ms. Twanita Lipscomb of the home and Mrs. Desiree King of Danville; one son, Mr. Calvin Lipscomb of Lawrenceville; one nephew, Mr. Tyriek Lipscomb; three great nieces, Kayla, Anita and Sarah; two brothers, Mr. George Lipscomb of Alton, Mr. Algie Lipscomb of Baltimore, MD; three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Norwood of Roxboro, NC, Mrs. Ola Johnson of South Boston and Mrs. Mattie Ewell of Baltimore, MD; one granddaughter, four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, two aunts, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. William Lipscomb.Funeral services were held Sunday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. H.R. Surgeon officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Samuel Wray Redd, 65, of 753 Magnolia Drive, South Boston died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center. He was born in Pittsylvania County on March 9, 1942, a son of the late A.C. Redd and Minnie Walker Redd and was married to Betty Womack Redd. He was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church, American Legion Post 8 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Samuel Wayne Redd of Clover; one daughter, Tracey R. Francis and husband Glen, Jr. of South Boston; two brothers, Amos Redd and wife Ina of Prince George and Herman Redd of Wirtz; five sisters, Velora R. Moore and Bonnie Snow and husband, Roger , both of Halifax, Francis Hawker and husband, Robert of Sutherlin, Virginia Strader of Ruffin, NC and Betty Miller and husband, David of South Boston; and one grandchild, Morgan Lynn Francis.Funeral services were held Sunday, March 18 at Ash Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Mr. Michael Eugene Whitt of 3071 East Hyco Road, South Boston died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Salem Virginia VA Medical Center. Born in Halifax County on October 22, 1953, he was 53 at the time of his death. He was a Navy veteran and was a member of The Living Word Church of Taylorsville, NC. Mr. Whitt is survived by his mother, Joyce Cranford Whitt and his father, Lacy R. Whitt, both of South Boston, a sister, Rebecca “Becky” W. Hutcherson and husband Ricky, also of South Boston, a brother, Stanley P. Whitt and wife, Ellen of Knighdale, NC, nieces, Shawn H. Short and husband Eric and Meredith Whitt and a nephew, Eric Whitt.A funeral service for Mr. Whitt will be conducted on Tuesday, March 20 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Curtis Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherry Hill UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at his parents’ home, 3071 East Hyco Road, South Boston. Mrs. Ruby Robertson McDowell Gregory, age 81, of 505 Robertson Road died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Danville Regional Hospital. She was born in Person County to the late George Thomas Robertson and Ella Jane Dunn Robertson. She was wife of the late Perry Golden Gregory. Mrs. Gregory was a retired Assistant Dietitian of Roxboro Nursing Center. She was a member of Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are her five children, Joyce Childress of Durham, Tricia Davis and John McDowell, Jr. both of Roxboro, Ronnie Thomas McDowell of Halifax, VA and Keith A. McDowell of South Boston, VA; Nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, twin step-granddaughters; one brother, Jimmy Robertson of Roxboro, and one sister Estelle R. Gentry of West Palm Beach, Fl. The funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Thomas and the Rev. Tommy Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7PM to 8:30 PM Monday, March 19, 2007 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
