Obituaries Mrs. Virginia Estes “Jennie” Vaughan Mrs. Virginia Estes “Jennie” Vaughan, 83, of South Boston, widow of the late Judge Robert Turnbull Vaughan, Sr., died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Powell Funeral Home, South Boston. Miss Sterling Bagby Miss Sterling Bagby of 425 Hamilton Boulevard, South Boston died Friday, March 2, 2007 at Somerset Assisted Living. Born in Halifax County on March 1, 1918, she was 89 at the time of her death and was the daughter of the late James Charles Bagby and Mamie Gravitt Bagby. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for over seventy-five years, was a member of the Berryman Green Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Virginia Library Association. She received a Bachelors degree from Lynchburg College, taught in the Halifax County School System for several years, then obtained a Masters Degree in Library Science from the College of William and Mary. Upon returning to Halifax County she was the librarian at the Halifax Town Library and then became the head librarian for Halifax County and South Boston public libraries. Miss Bagby will always be remembered as the instigator of the Halifax County Bookmobile program and for driving the bookmobile vehicle throughout Halifax County.Miss Bagby is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Bagby Blount of South Boston, Grace Bagby Shufflebarger of Portsmouth, a nephew, David Thompson Blount, Jr. of Scottsburg and three nieces, Reya B. Roller of Scottsburg, Cary S. Harrell and Ellen S. Swaffar, both of Portsmouth.A funeral service for Miss Bagby will be conducted on Monday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Marjorie Blount, 1108 Marshall Avenue, South Boston. Mr. John Callon Miller Mr. John Callon Miller, 87, of Nathalie died Tuesday, February 27, 2007. The son of the late Mr. Johnnie Miller and Mrs. Millie Ann Miller, he was married to Mrs. Gelois Miller. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of the home, four sons, Allen (Joan) Miller of Concord, Wes (Tracy) Miller, Gary (Marguerite) Miller, and Johnnie Miller, all of Nathalie, four daughters, Cynthia (Cym) Miller, Debbie (Jimmy) Tucker, Angela Miller and Tony Williams, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Henrietta Scott of Newark, DE, three brothers-in-law, Billy (Lynn) Moorefield of Newark, DE, Jimmie (Berta) Moorefield of Madison Heights, George (Diedra) Moorefield of Mt. Ranier, MD, a devoted granddaughter, CaMisha, a devoted niece, Barbara Poindexter and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.A funeral service for Mr. Miller was held Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at Republican Grove Baptist Church in Nathalie with Rev. Miss Wilma Doris Blackstock Miss Wilma Doris Blackstock of 518 Easley Street, South Boston died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at The Woodview Nursing Home. Born in Halifax County on June 8, 1911, she was 95 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Walter Scott Blackstock and Harriette Eliza “Hallie” Guill Blackstock. She was a member of First Baptist Church of South Boston since 1924 and was retired from Leggett Department Stores of South Boston. Miss Blackstock is survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mabel Alene Blackstock.A graveside service for Miss Blackstock will be conducted on Wednesday, March 2 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Cannon officiating. She was born in Halifax County on March 11, 1927, a daughter of the late Mr. Belt Faulkner and Mrs. Nannie Scott Faulkner. She was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church and was a retired teacher of 39 years from Halifax County Public Schools.She is survived by two sons, Mr. Rodney "Jerry" Hicks of Bowie, MD and Mr. Whitney L. Harris and wife Sharon Mosley Harris of South Boston; one sister, Mrs. Alease Juanita Brown of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, William, Kenneth and Nicholas Harris; one aunt, Mrs. Vernice S. Morman and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lydia D. Faulkner. She was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. Hurley M. Faulkner. Funeral services will be held today at 12:00 noon at St. Mark Baptist Church with Rev. Herbert Pettiford officiating. .
