Obituaries William Lynn Rice, S William Lynn Rice, Sr., 54,husband of Linda Jones Rice, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. The son of William Booker and Martha “Tuny” Stigall Rice, he graduated from Halifax High School with the class of 1971. He worked at Burlington Industries for 30+ years and had been employed with Revlon for the past four years.Lynn was known as a sports enthusiast, loving baseball, football, softball and was an avid outdoorsman, loving hunting and fishing. A funeral service for Mr. Rice will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, February 12 at Nelson Bapstit Church with the Reverends James McAlister, Bill LaWall and Norman Talley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In addition to this wife and parents, he is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, William Lynn, Jr.and Kristen Rice of Silverdale, WA, Henry Doyle Rice of Roxboro, NC, stepsons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Laurie Seate of Halifax and Chad and Tracy Seate of Nelson; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda R. and Wade Thomas; and Robin R. and Terry Wolford, all of Oxford NC. Smith, died Friday, February 9, 2007 at her home. She was born in Napa, ID
to the late Paul Chilton and Mary Vettese Chilton Burke. Mrs. Smith is
survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angela Smith and M.C. Day of
South Boston, a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Cecil and Ann B. Smith of
Danville, two brothers, Robert LeRoy Kurtz of Willow Creek, CA and Don
Edwin and wife, Linda Kurtz of Keysville, five grandchildren, Joseph Bryan
Smith, Marc David Smith, Michael Keith Smith, Ashley Faith Day and Jacob
Mason Day and an extra special friend, Cookie Pharr. She was preceded in
death by a son, Keith Randall Smith. A memorial service for Mrs. Smith
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Rodney Barwick and the
Rev. Charles Clay officiating at Watkins Cooper Lyon Chapel. Interment of
cremated remains follows at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Chase City.

Mr. James Ernest Mills Mr. James Ernest Mills, 59, of 2221 Old Grubby Road, South Boston died Monday, January 29, 2007 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on April 30, 1947, a son of Ms. Thalia Mills Ragsdale.In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sisters, Ms. Doris Ragsdale of South Boston, Ms. Price Ragsdale, Ms. Nancy Lee Ragsdale and Ms. Fannie Alice Ragsdale, all of Philadelphia, PA; six brothers, Mr. Leon Ragsdale of South Boston, Mr. Michael Ragsdale of Newport News, Mr. Harvey Lee Ragsdale, Mr. Lonnie Ragsdale, Mr. Nathaniel Ragsdale and Mr. Henry Ragsdale, all of Philadelphia, PA; one Godsister, Ms. Glenda Royal; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Doshie Ragsdale; four aunts, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. John A. Ragsdale. Memorial services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Crawford House Chapel with Rev. Dr. Roger Ford officiating. Elder Charles Faulkner Elder Charles Faulkner, 91, of Newport News, formerly of Halifax County, died Monday, February 5, 2007 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on July 31, 1915, a son of the late Mrs. Mary Faulkner. He is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Lula Claiborne Olds and Mrs. Dorothy C. Braithewaite (Leslie); three nephews, Mr. Carter Claiborne, Jr. (Christine), Mr. William J. Claiborne, Mr. William Bryant Claiborne (Harriett) of South Boston; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ms. Elizabeth Claiborne and one brother, Mr. Joe Faulkner. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 11 at Christ Temple Holiness Church. Graveside services will be held today at Rose Garden Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the gravesite. Mrs. Christine Eades Mills, 72, of Nathalie died Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Berry Hill Nursing Home. She was born in Pittsylvania County on May 26, 1934, a daughter of the late Ocie William Eades and Sallie Barbour Eades and was married to the late Arthur Presley Mills, Jr. She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" M. Glass and husband Reuben Glass, Jr. of Nathalie; one granddaughter, Anne Elizabeth Lloyd of Nathalie; two sisters, Ruth E. Mullins of Charlottesville and Mildred E. Womack of Halifax. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 10 at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael O'Shea officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Roger Lee Dunkley Mr. Roger Lee Dunkley, 52, of Richmond, formerly of South Boston, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on March 27, 1954, son of the late Mr. Abraham Dunkley and Mrs. Pearl Bowman Dunkley and he was a United States Army veteran. He is survived by his fiance, Ms. Wanda Whittle of Richmond; three daughters, Mrs. Tonya Barksdale of South Boston, Ms. Mylesha Dunkley and Ms. Jalen Dunkley, both of Richmond; one step-son, Mr. Michael Whittle of Richmond; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ennis of Upper Marlboro, MD, Mrs. Lucille Stephens and Mrs. Martha Thorpe, both of Landover, MD; five brothers, Mr. James Dunkley of New York, Mr. Milton Dunkley of Richmond, Mr. William Dunkley of Mississippi, Mr. Benjamin Dunkley and Mr. Frank Dunkley, both of South Boston; three grandchildren, one son-in-law, five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, special friends Mr. Frederick Ford, Mrs. Dorothy Chapman, Mr. Doll Baby Harrison and Mr. William Boyd and other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held Saturday, February 10 at Crawford House Chapel with Rev. Sandy Palmer officiating. Burial was private.
