Mrs. Waudieur Elizabeth Toomer Crawley
Mrs. Waudieur Elizabeth Toomer Crawley, 88, of 1061 Crawley Trail,
South Boston died Friday, January 19, 2007 in Hampton. She was born in
Coltsville, PA on January 8, 1919, a daughter of the late Mr. Horace M.
Toomer and Mrs. Clara Beckwith Toomer and was married to Mr. Joseph Daniel
Crawley, Jr. She was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Elaine
C. Reaves of Hampton; one son, Mr. Beckwith Crawley of South Boston; one
sister, Mrs. Katherine Rux Bowden of Washington, DC; eight grandchildren,
three great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one son-in-law, Mr.
Cato Reaves; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Cheryl Crawley and Mrs. Oressa
Crawley; her added family, Mr. Raymond Crawley and Mrs. Evelyn Crawley,
other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one daughter,
Frances and two sons, Horace and Danny and two sisters, Alice and Belle.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24 at Crossroad Baptist
Church with Rev. Dennis White officiating. Burial followed in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Ruby Lee Rocker Younger
Mrs. Ruby Lee Rocker Younger, 68, of South Boston died Monday, January 22,
2007 at The Woodview. She was born in Monroeville, Alabama on November 29,
1938, a daughter of the late Mr. Clarence Rocker and Mrs. Elma Burrell
Rocker. She was a member of Dan River Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Mr. Johnnie Younger, Jr. of Temple, TX, Mr.
Kevin Younger and Mr. Spyros Younger, both of Richmond; three sisters,
Mrs. Johnnie Mae Campbell of Mobile, AL, Mrs. Barbara Short of Birmingham,
AL and Mrs. Marie Davis of Stafford; seven brothers, Mr. Earlmere Younger
of Winston Salem, NC, Mr. Clarence Younger of Atlanta, GA, Mr. Larry
Younger of New Orleans, LA, Mr. Ronnie Younger of Stafford, Mr. Anthony
Younger of Mobile, AL; two brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-law, a
dedicated Goddaughter and her mother, Mrs. Melissa and Mrs. Shelia Clay,
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Dan
River Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Wilkerson officiating. Burial
will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the
church Friday, January 26 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the church and other
times at 4082 Bold Springs Road, South Boston. Memorials may be directed
to the American Cancer Association in memory of Ruby R. Younger.
Clara Womack Guill Dixon
The funeral for Clara Womack Guill Dixon, 66, of 300 Hamilton
Blvd., South Boston, Va., who died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at Halifax
Regional Hospital, was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in the
Brooks Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Timothy Hyatt and the Rev. Andy
Ferguson. Burial was in the Childrey Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Dixon
was a native of Virginia, the daughter of the late Letcher Miles and
Jessie Ferrell Womack Jones. Her late brothers were John Henry Womack and
Roger Womack.She was a nurse’s aide who was retired from The
Woodview.She was a Baptist.Surviving are two sons, Dewey F. Guill and
wife, Kim, of Spokane, Wash. and Dennis F. Guill and wife, Staci, of
Nathalie, Va.; a daughter, Donna F. Long and husband, Gerald, of Roxboro;
a sister, Catherine W. Woosley of Alton, Va.; a brother, Mariow Wilson
Womack of Newport News, Va.; four grandchildren, Dewey F. Guill Jr.,
Ashlie E. Welsh, Matthew Blanks and Katie Guill; her former husband, Josh
Guill; and companion, Warren Smith.
Mrs. LaWanda Marable Cunningham
Mrs. LaWanda Marable Cunningham was born to the late Shirley Burrell
Marable and Clarence Aaron Marable on April 1, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA.
On Sunday, January 21, 2007 God's angels carried her to eternal rest after
a long courageous fight with Lou Gherigs disease. She was educated in the
public schools of Halifax County and continued her education at Virginia
State College. Wanda worked as a Fashion Fair beauty consultant while
traveling extensively overseas with her husband, the late Ernest D.
Cunningham. After returning to the states in 1992 she went on to become a
manager for Fashion Fair in Fort Meade, MD and again at Belk Department
Store in Danville, VA in 1995. She later joined the State Employees Credit
Union in Roxboro, NC as a new accounts manager. Following the death of her
husband in 2003, she decided to join her sister Frances and become part
owner of Angie's Hats and Boutique in Danville, VA. Together they enjoyed
a successful business until the decline of her health. While fighting to
regain her strength she continued to work from home to help support the
business.
Wanda had acknowledged Jesus Christ as her savior, and at a young age
joined First Baptist Church on Ferry St. in South Boston under pastor U.R.
Booker. During the latter years of her life she attended Mason Chapel
Baptist Church in Alton, VA.
Wanda was married to the late Ernest D. Cunningham for twenty-nine years.
To this union three children were born, Rico Antjuan of Richmond, VA,
Derek LaMar and Apryl Rose of the home.
In addition to her children, Wanda leaves to cherish precious memories,
her sister Frances Brayboy of Alton, VA; brother Charles Burrell of
Richmond, VA, mother-in-law, Anne Brandon Cunningham of the home;
Grandfather Acree Williams of Halifax, VA; three brothers-in-law, Rev.
Vaughn Brayboy of Alton, VA, Joel C. Cunningham of Halifax, VA and William
"Butch" Cunningham of Pleasant Garden, NC; two sisters-in-law,
Evelyn Cunningham of Halifax, VA and Dorothy Cunningham of Pleasant
Garden, NC; her aunts, Louise Burrell and Rebecca Simpson; uncle James
Simpson; nieces, Tanisha, Cindy, Joy and Lindsey; nephews Emile' and Joel.
She also leaves behind two special friends Andrea Starks and William
Younger and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 26 at 12:00 noon with
services at the First Baptist Church, Ferry Street, South Boston, VA with
Rev. Dr. Vaughn Brayboy officiating. Burial will follow in the Mason
Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Alton, VA. The family will be receiving
friends Thursday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at the chapel of
Jeffress Funeral Home in South Boston and at all other times at the
residence, 1214 Mason Chapel Road, Alton, VA. Funeral arrangements are by
