Mr. Joseph Frederick Lightcap

Mr. Joseph Frederick Lightcap, 84, of 2205 Lennig Road, Nathalie died Sunday, December 17, 2006 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 14, 1922, a son of the late Joseph W. Lightcap and Carmen Gomez Lightcap and was married to Jean Marian Lightcap. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Carmen McKana of Carnwell, NY and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Lightcap. Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to a charity of one's choice.

 Mrs. Helen Sadler Francis

Mrs. Helen Sadler Francis, 63, of 20202 Eugene Drive, Sutherland died Sunday, December 17, 2006 at her home.  She was born in Halifax County, a daughter of the late Ernest Sadler and Helen Caudle Sadler and was married to Dean L. Francis, Sr.  She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Dean L. Francis, Jr. of Sutherland; one daughter, Angela Marie Francis of Sutherland; one sister, Diane S. Lowery of South Boston; two brothers, Ernest Sadler, Jr. of Petersburg and Randy Taylor of Dinwiddie.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Debra S. Hall. Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 19 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Millstone with Rev. Terry Blevins officiating.  

 Patricia Adair (nee Johnson)

Patricia Adair (nee Johnson), 79, died Monday, December 18, 2006.  Born in Richmond, she later relocated to Duck, NC. She is survived by her son, Taylor Adair; sister, Martha Haley; and grandchildren, Emily Adair and Douglas Adair. Graveside services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends today from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Avenue, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.

 

 

Melissie Cole Carter
ROXBORO, N.C. - Melissie Cole Carter, 79, of 3979 Halifax Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006 at Person County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Chappel and the late Mammie Wilbourn Cole.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, the Todd Sunday school class and sang in the church choir.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years and 11 months, George Raymond Carter; one daughter, Nancy Carter Hall of Sutherlin; three brothers, Arthur Cole of Mebane, Robert Fred Cole of Roxboro and Dandy Cole of Timberlake; three sisters, Nannie Talley and Hattie Mae Warren both of Alton, and Florence Yarboro of Roxboro; one grandchild; three step-grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 at Mill Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Hager and the Rev. Tommy Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in Alton Baptist Church Cemetery in Alton.The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Novella Cora Earp
DANVILLE - Novella Cora Earp, 102, formerly of Sunset Drive, Milton, N.C. and presently of 2526 North Main Street, died Monday, December 18, 2006 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had been a resident since September 2003.
Born April 11, 1904, in Milton, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Smith Lawson Earp and the late Cora Alice Jendricks Earp.
She had lived her life in the Milton community and worked as a school teacher for the public school system.She attended Averett College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the oldest member at the time of her death.She was the last survivor of her generation.She is survived by three nieces, Patsy Martin of Danville, Theodora W. King of Raleigh, N.C. and Myrtle W. Vernon of Alton; and one nephew, James Penn Earp of Milton, N.C.She was predeceased by five sisters, Bessie Lou Earp, Ora Williamson, Grace Wade, Mary Ella Earp and Irene Earp; and four brothers, the Rev. Charlie H. Earp, Warner S. Earp, James E. Earp and William R. Earp.A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Calvary United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Warren Stackhouse and the Rev. Linwood Daniel officiating.The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. At other times they will be at the residence of her niece, Patsy Martin, 2246 Pine Lake Road, Danville.The family suggests that memorials may be given to Roman Eagle Memorial Home, 2526 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540; or to the charity of your choice.Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements
