John Richard Pulliam Sr.
John Richard Pulliam Sr., 95, of 2050 Aarons Creek Road, Virgilina died December
5, 2006, at his home. Mr. Pulliam was born March 3, 1911, in Halifax County the
son of the late Benjamin F. Pulliam and Mollie Smith Pulliam, and was married to
the late Frances Smith Pulliam. He was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church,
a Army Air Corp Veteran and a retired farmer. Survivors include one son, John
Richard Pulliam Jr. and wife, Linda, of Bullock, N.C.; one daughter, Becky P.
Gravitt and husband, Barry, of Virgilina; one sister, Fannie P. Davis of
Roanoke; three granddaughters, Kathy G. Payne, Kelly G. Friend and Jennifer P.
Fitzgerald; three grandsons, Keith Gravitt, Jonathan and Jacob Pulliam; and six
great-grandchildren. One sister, Mary Perkins, and five brothers, Addie Oliver,
Leroy, George, Andy and James Pulliam preceded Mr. Pulliam in death. Funeral
services were held at Aarons Creek Baptist Church December 7, at 11 a.m. with
the Rev. Bill McEntire officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

choice.
Carrie Louise Dunn Johnson
Carrie Louise Dunn Johnson died December 4, 2006, at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Mrs. Johnson was born June 23, 1943, the daughter of the late Jesse P. Dunn Sr.
and Harriett E. Dunn, and was married to Theodore ‘Ted’ Johnson. She was a
member of County Line Baptist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star in
Washington, D.C. She was an employee of Hecht Department Store, was manager of
Westside Village in Sinai and also worked at Jessie’s Adult Home. Survivors
include her husband; two daughters, Tedi Johnson, and Tracy Pendleton and
husband James; five brothers, John R. Dunn and wife, Louise, Jesse P. Dunn, Earl
Dunn and wife, Marion, the Rev. William M. Dunn and wife, Rosita, and Harry L.
Dunn and wife, Joyce; two sisters, Mary D. Morton and husband, Stewart, and
Kessye Cargile and husband, CB; and one grandson, Jamil Mian. She was preceded
in death by three brothers, Gatha, Charlie and an infant brother. Funeral
services for Mrs. Johnson will be held tomorrow, December 9, at 2:00 p.m. at
County Line Baptist Church. Viewing will be one hour before the service begins.
Ezelliar Owens Easley
Ezelliar Owens Easley, 90, of 1221 Marion’s Trail, Halifax, died December 2,
2006, at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Easley was born in Halifax County on
March 21, 1916, to the late Aaron Owens and Evelyn Coleman Owens, and was
married to the late Major Riley Easley. She was a member of St. Luke CME Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Puckette of Halifax; two sisters,
Rebecca Williams of Halifax and Mable Owens of St. Albans, N.Y.; two
grandchildren, Pierce Puckette Jr. of Queens Village, N.Y. and Du-Neika Easley
of Richmond; one great-grandchild, Kyree Coleman of Richmond; one sister-in-law,
Betty Holt of Halifax; and one daughter-in-law, Shirley Easley of Halifax. Mrs.
Easley was preceded in death by one son, Dugas Major Easley. Funeral services
will be held tomorrow, December 9, at noon at St. Luke CME Church with the Rev.
Jesse Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family
will receive friends at 1092 James Trail in Halifax. Public viewing will be at
the Crawford House in Halifax.
Alexander ‘Buddy Roe’ Burrell
Alexander ‘Buddy Roe’ Burrell, 56, of 1706 Grace Avenue, South Boston died
December 1, 2006, in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Burrell was born in Halifax County on
November 5, 1950, to the late James Burrell and Sallie Stokes Burrell. He was a
member of Deliverance Tabernacle Church. Survivors include five brothers, George
Burrell of Detroit, Eugene Burrell, Thomas Burrell, Calvin L. Burrell and Bishop
Larry R. Burrell, all of South Boston; one sister, Dorothy Burrell of South
Boston; three sisters-in-law, Juanita Burrell, Laura Burrell and Marsha Burrell.
Funeral services for Mr. Burrell will be held today, December 8, at 2 p.m. at
Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Bishop Carl Lykes officiating. Burial will follow
in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
