Mrs. Laura Harris Randall
Mrs. Laura Harris Randall, 95, of 7011 L.P. Bailey Highway,
Halifax, formerly of Chesterfield, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at her home.
She was born in Halifax County on September 28, 1911, daughter of the
late Mr. James Lee Harris and Mrs. Emma Bell Coleman Harris.
She was married to the late Mr. James L. Randall and was a member of
First Baptist Church, Chester.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Eliza H. Farrar of
Nathalie; six grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Harris of
Alexandria; devoted niece, Mrs. Emma Wilkerson of Halifax; other relatives and
friends. She was preceded in death
by one son, Mr. James Ellis Harris and three brothers, Mr. Wilson Harris, Mr.
James Harris and Mr. Carl Harris.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9 at 11:00
a.m. at First Baptist Church, Chester with Rev. Dr. Wilson Shannon officiating.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Donald Ray Davidson,
Rev. Donald Ray Davidson, 70, of 4124 East Hyco Road, South
Boston died Monday, December 4, 2006 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born November 6, 1936 in Columbus, OH, son of the late Percy L.
Davidson and Olive Thorpe Davidson and was married to Rev. Ruth Ann Davidson.
He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, a retired pastor
who served several United Methodist Churches on the Lynchburg and Farmville
Districts for 34 years and he pastored at Union Christian Church in Virgilina
until his recent illness. He was
also a member of Hyco Ruritan Club where he served as Chaplain.
He formerly served as chaplain for the South Boston Police Department and
the Culpeper Police Department. He
was a volunteer counselor for the Mental Health Association of Halifax County,
where he founded a program of pastoral care for pastors within Halifax County in
conjunction with this association. He
was a member of the Halifax County Social Services Board for 11 years, serving
as Chairman from 1997 until 2003. He was a member of the Halifax County Ministerial Association
and was involved with prison ministries and was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son,
Christopher Ray Davidson of Danville; one daughter, Melanie Ann Watts and
husband Dusty of Lake Wales, FL; one sister, Carolyn Jones and husband Ross of
Sunbury, OH; one brother, Dennis Davidson of Powell, OH; grandchildren
Christopher Ray Davidson, Jr., Justin Ray Davidson, Wylie Watts and Derreck
Aylor, nieces and nephews Jill Dempsey, Julie Andy, Kevin Otten and Jeffery
Otten. He was preceded in death by
one son, Donald Mark Davidson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8 at 11:00
a.m. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. James Tongue, D.S. and
Rev. Raymond McGarr officiating. Burial
will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials
may be directed to Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 4129 East Hyco Road,
South Boston, VA 24592 or Union Christian Church, P.O. Box 148, Virgilina, VA
24592.
