Newly elected public officials took their official oaths on Friday afternoon with Judge Frank M. Slayton swearing them into office. The Judge thanked officials for offering themselves for public service, noting that it means making sacrifices of their time and that of their families.
Taking the oath as Clerk of Court was Bobby Conner, who was sworn in for another eight year term, Commonwealth's Attorney Kimberly Slayton White for a four year term, Sheriff Stanley Noblin for a four year term, Commissioner of the Revenue, Brenda Powell and County Treasurer Linda Foster, both for four year terms.
Members of the Halifax County Board of Supervisors were sworn in to serve another four year term. The five members, all incumbents who ran unopposed in the November General Election, included ED#1 Supervisor R. E. "Dickie" Abbott, ED#4 Supervisor Doug Bowman, ED#5 Supervisor James Edmunds, ED#7 Supervisor Lottie T. Nunn and ED#8 Supervisor William Bryant Claiborne.
Newly elected members of the Halifax County School Board, none of whom were incumbents, sworn in were ED#1 Devin Snead, ED#4 Joe Gasperini, ED#5 Roger Long, ED#7 Stuart Comer and ED#8 Walter Potts.
Also directors of the Soil and Water Conservation District sworn in were Kenneth Cassada and Page Wilkerson. Not present was the third director, Hudson Reese.
Following the swearing in ceremony, a reception was held for officials, their families and their guests.
