Randolph spoke with parents and students on Saturday at the NAACP Back
to School event held at the Wedgewood Golf Center. He answered

of student conduct. (SOMcL photo)
The NAACPís Back to School Fun Day on a hot Saturday brought out a good
crowd ó first to have some late summer fun and secondly, to discuss the
schoolís Code of Student Conduct.
The meeting, held at Wedgewood Golf Center on State Route 360 west,
provided an opportunity for students to play putt-putt, practice their
drives and participate in fun wagon activity while a large number of
parents, as well as the students listened to school officials explain
the rules. The group was also treated to lunch and cool drinks.
ìWe are happy to have so many parents and students turn out for this
day,î said Kevin Chandler, president of the local NCAAP chapter. ìWe
feel this is a great opportunity for parents to ask questions and to
discuss the conduct code. While we send a copy of the student code of
conduct home, many parents say they never receive it, so weíre passing
out copies here today.î The code calls on parents to sign a statement
of receipt of the copy of the code and guarantees their right to
express disagreement with a policy or decision.
On hand to answer parentsí questions were School Board member Arthur
Reynolds, incoming school board member Walter Potts and High School
Principal Albert Randolph.
Randolph explained to the parents that the current price of milk is one
of the factors causing an increase in lunch prices.
He also cautioned parents about the loss or destruction of books.
ìThose books cost $100 and if they are lost or damaged, you will be
responsible for replacing them,î he warned. The principal invited his
listeners to contact him personally if they encountered problems with
their students at school.
Chandler said his organization will hold other sessions throughout the
school year. ìWe are very anxious to see that we have a productive year
for all our students,î he said.
