Deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State
Police troopers and officers from the South Boston Police Department
responded to a call at Holiday Inn Express, Riverdale, South Boston on
Thursday, August 30 at 1:45 a.m. in reference to a person disorderly. 
Following an investigation into the incident and evidence at the scene,
26 year old James Herbert Moorefield, III, a.k.a. "Jay" of Clays Mill
Road, Scottsburg was arrested on the following charges:  two felonies
for assault and batter on a law enforcement office, two misdemeanors,
one for obstruction of justice and one for damaging property. 
Moorefield is being held in Halifax Adult Detention Center scheduled
for arraignment on September 5.
