Hugh Moore’s love for the youth of Halifax County and his Christian
dedication were highlighted during the dedication of the newly
completed Vaughan Street Bridge on Saturday morning. South Boston
Town
Manager Ted Daniel said he had only known Moore since he arrived in
South Boston in 1998, but he was impressed with the dedication Moore
had shown to his church and to the youth of Halifax County for whom
he
had established Dixie Youth sports teams, often coaching them as
well
as reporting on their activities.
It was members of the Dixie Youth sports leagues who had requested
that
the bridge be named for Moore.
“His memory we’ll never forget and his name will remain here for
future
youth to see and remember him,” said Daniel.
As family members unveiled the plaque, naming the bridge for Moore,
Daniel added, “Moore was a great man who led a wonderful life.” The
plaque was unveiled by his sons, Kirby and Charlie and his
granddaughter, Jewel Moore.
