The South Boston Lions Club citrus fruit will be ready for pick up
Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the
rear of the South Boston Venture Center Building on Seymour Drive.  All
those who have ordered fruit, please pick up your fruit as early in the
day as possible.  There will be Lions on hand to load your fruit for
you.
The South Boston Lions Club wishes to express our appreciation to each
individual, business and others who have purchased fruit this year in
support of our number one fundraising project.  Special appreciation is
expressed to Mr. Joey Hastings for trucking services, Dr. Lewis
Johnston and Mr. Willard Greer for the use of the warehouse, Mr. Lafell
Elliott for the use of equipment, and the Gazette-Virginian, News &
Record, radio station WHLF 95.3 and Adelphia Cable TV for providing
publicity.  We also thank all of the individuals who are not Lions who
sold fruit and assisted in so many essential ways to make this project
a success.  You have made this another successful year for the Lions
fruit project which will provide funds to assist with the needs of
those less fortunate in our community.
All profits from this fruit sale will be used to provide assistance to
others in need.  The South Boston Lions Club provide eye examinations
and glasses and hearing aids for those in our community who cannot
afford these essential services, supports the Old Dominion Eye Bank,
Leader Dog for the Blind School and Prevent Blindness in Virginia.  The
South Boston Lions Club also supports Burkeville Lodge for the Blind,
Bland Music Scholarship Contest, Virginia Hearing/Research Foundation,
Halifax United Way, Boy Scouts, Dixie Youth Baseball, Post Prom Party,
South Boston/Halifax County Museum of History and Fine Arts, Halifax
County YMCA, Lion of Virginia Foundation, Lions International
Foundation, Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation, American Diabetes
Association, Hospice and other projects that help meet the needs of
those less fortunate in our community.  The South Boston Lions Club
provides supplies for the Prevent Blindness Vision Screening program
for the Halifax County Public School System.  The Lions Club also
provides vision screening for the Head Start program in Halifax and
Mecklenburg Counties.
Lions Clubs International is the largest service organization in the
world with 1,209,003 members in 44,920 clubs in 200 countries and
geographic areas as of July 31, 2007.  The Lion motto is "We Serve" and
the local club welcomes new members looking for a way to serve our
community.  Dues meet all operating expenses of the club and 100 per
cent of all monies received from fundraising projects are used to meet
the needs of others.
