Sally Lambrecht will be noted in the December issue of Watercolor Magic
magazine as an up-and-coming artist in its annual Ones To Watch feature.
"Better late than never," joked Lambrecht, who calls herself a late
bloomer. She said she didn't make the mental leap from art teacher and
part-time watercolor artist to working with the mind-set of a professional
artist until well into retirement. This after her four sons were grown and
civic and church responsibilities abated.
"I'm really pleased to have the recognition from professional artists
and to be grouped with them," she said of the honor.
That edition of Watercolor Magic will hit newsstands Oct. 1.
"I love your unique design sense and ability to get to the message of the
painting and include only the significant," wrote Jean Grastorf, a teacher
of workshops nationally and the author of "Pouring Light, Layering
Transparent Watercolor." Grastorf nominated Lambrecht for the honor.
The magazine receives 30-40 nominations and from among those chooses 10-15
artists to feature.
One of the paintings mentioned in the article won an award in a
Virginia Watercolor Society annual exhibit and is now a donated gift to the
United Methodist Women of Main Street United Methodist Church in South
Boston. It hangs in the parlor there.
Lambrecht has earned signature status in both Virginia and North Carolina
Watercolor Societies and is working for the same status in National
Societies.
Lambrecht's watercolor work will appear locally in the Art Show & Sale at
The Prizery beginning Oct. 6.
Lambrecht, a longtime Halifax County Public Schools art teacher,
retired with her husband several years ago to Summerfield, N.C.
