The big news for County Supervisors Monday night was simply that King Vilage Trail, now Route 959, has been completed and there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony this Thursday at 11 a.m. on the new road.
Resident Highway Administrator Joe Barkley advised Board members that work on the project had begun back on August 20 and was completed last Friday. He credited White Construction Company with doing a great job, finishing the project more than two months ahead of time since the contract completion date was December 15.
Residents of the road, especially 89 year old Mrs. Edith Edmonds, expressed their deep appreciation to Supervisors and to Barkley, telling them how thrilled they were to see county school buses traveling the road for the first time on Monday morning.
Barkley advised that he has contacted the Halifax Postmaster, asking for information on how mailboxes should be properly installed along the new road so as to insure delivery of residents' mail.
The Board also heard Barkley advise that the Route 96 Virgilina Road project will be completed this week on October 5. Barkley further told the board that the Berry Hill Road bridge replacement over Poplar Creek is scheduled for bid opening on October 24. He estimated that the work would continue into next summer with a detour being in place
Barkley told Supervisors that he will present a power point presentation to members of Halifax Town Council tonight, showing them plans for the Route 360 Banister Bridge. Barkley also told the Board that the state has asked that local Six Year Plans be delayed until spring and he hopes to work with the Board during March through May to finalize the plan for the County.
