Keith Traynham
A 21 year old Scottsburg man was arrested early Sunday morning at 12:20 a.m.
and charged with numerous felony counts. Keith Traynham of Temple Hill Road
was charged with felony assault on a police officer, felony malicious
wounding, felony hit and run, felony eluding police, a second offense DUI,
and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was arrested by South Boston Senior
Patrol Officer Sam Edmonds.
According to South Boston Investigator B.K. Lovelace, Traynham's arrest
stems from an incident which occurred at a Centerville business late
Saturday night. An employee of the business had called and reported that a
male subject had assaulted a patron and was attempting to assault another.
When law enforcement officers arrived the male subject was in a vehicle,
attempting to leave the business as they approached. They ordered him to get
out of the car, but the driver put it in reverse and struck the police car
of Investigator G. M. Gilliam. He then proceeded to leave the parking lot.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Greens Folly Road, but the driver
then turned right onto Halifax Road and suddenly pulled into the parking lot
of the Apple Mart and fled on foot. Following a short foot pursuit the
suspect was apprehended by law enforcement officers and taken into custody.
The victim was transported to the local emergency room where she was treated
and released for her injuries, as was Investigator Gilliam. Damages to the
police cruiser were estimated at some $2,000, following an investigation by
members of the Virginia State Police. Traynham is being held in the
Halifax Adult Detention Center under no bond.
