Election District #4 school board member Joe Bailey announced on
Thursday that he will seek a second term on the Halifax County
School
Board.
Making his announcement at the South Boston Speedway, Bailey
emphasized
that he had come up with the idea of a class with a NASCAR concept
which Superintendent of Schools Paul Stapleton implemented and
helped
with the creation of the motor sports academy.
He also said he had constructed and designed, as well as donating
toward, the Tisha Waller sign which now stands at the Tisha Waller
Track and Field at Halifax County High School.
During his announcement Bailey also said he supports and works well
with Superintendent Stapleton and listens to his constituents. He
said
he supported the new construction and renovations to the Middle
School
and the new South Boston and Cluster Springs Elementary Schools, as
well as lending his support to the STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math) Center in Halifax.
He has, he noted, worked with students, parents and faculty on
reforming a new high school football program which went from a 2-8
season to an 8-2 season in a year with back-to-back playoff visits.
Finally he promised to support former Governor Mark Warner's belief
in
dual enrollment courses and now Halifax County has more dual
enrollment
than any other school system in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Bailey is the second school board member to announce his intention
in
the coming election. Earlier ED#8 trustee Kelly Hill said she will
not
seek re-election from her district. Candidates have until June 12 to
announce their plans for election or re-election.
