South Boston man accused in slaying with blunt object

A 23 year old Bane Street, South Boston man has been charged with first
degree murder and is being held without bond in the Blue Ridge Regional
Jail in Halifax.
Michael D. Jackson was arrested without incident at a Bane Street home
on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at approximately 1:45 p.m. His arrest
stems from charges that he struck 40 year old Michael R. Oliver of
Halifax County in the head with a blunt object.
Oliver was found lying in the street, bleeding, when South Boston
Police officers responded to a 6 p.m. call at 1050 Bane Street. He was
taken to Halifax Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries and
later airlifted to Duke Trauma Center where he died early Wednesday
morning.
Anyone who might have information about the case, which is under
investigation, is asked to contact Sgt. T. M. Van Aernem at
(434)575-4273 or Crime Stoppers at 575-TIPS.
South Boston Police Chief Jim Binner thanked the community and other
law enforcement agencies for their assistance in handling the case.
