The News & Record / November 24, 2009
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Getting wrecked on pit road? Why not, it was about the only thing that hasn’t happened to Elliott Sadler in 2009.

“That was crazy,” said Sadler from inside the Sprint Cup garage. “We were coming to pit road and the 43 looked like he stopped right in front of me. It looks like the 96 was trying to get into the garage when everyone was pitting. I’m not sure what they were doing or why they were doing that right in front of everybody. That’s tough luck for our race team.

“That’s kind of how our season has gone. I hate to end the season like this. It’s just a tough deal. Getting wrecked on pit road is just weird.”

On the good side, Sadler’s 41st place finish, didn’t affect his 26th place position in the point standings which means Sadler is guaranteed a spot in the first five races of 2010.

All drivers are just a little anxious to have more than one week off after a grueling 38 race schedule, but most are itching to get back to racing long before February. Sadler is happy to close the book on 2009, with the promise of good things to come in 2010.

“I love to race as much as anyone, but I’m honestly really looking forward to the off-season to kind of reset mentally and physically. We have a lot of exciting and positive things going on and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. We are making a manufacturer switch, merging with another team and working to make our team as strong as possible heading into 2010.

“This year was full of twists and turns right from the start. We ended last season as Gillett Evernham Motorsports and started this year as Richard Petty Motorsports. To look at our team now from where we were a year ago at this time is really pretty staggering. Last year we only had two cars in the top-35 and a third car qualifying each week on time. Now we have Richard Petty as part of our team and we have four cars securely in the top-35 heading into Daytona. We’ve are headed in the right direction and I’m expecting great things in 2010.”

Great things would certainly include consistent top 15 finishes, some top 10’s and real opportunities to win races. Sadler is excited about getting back under the Ford umbrella. He has a lot of friends at Ford and all of his Sprint Cup wins have been in Fords.
