Dear Viewpoint:One of my main interests in Danville is supporting the creation of jobs. In 1954 I was 18 years old and I worked in the tabacco industry here in town. Hundreds of workers were affected by breathing the steamdust pollutants in these factories. Regardless, we had jobs and it took the outsourcing of the tabacco industry to not only revive our health but give us a chance to revive our economy. With almost one out of almost every 7 people jobless, we are clearly pleading for jobs and we want jobs in the clean energy industry. Representative Perriello recognizes the potential for clean energy jobs in the area and that’s why he voted for the American Clean Energy and Security act, because it will create a million jobs nationally and 45,000 jobs here in Virginia. I want to urge Senator Webb and Senator Warner to support clean energy legislation this Spring because with our agricultural and manufacturing history we can revive our economy and create jobs with a healthy long lasting work environment.
