Hometown angels

SoVaNow.com / February 25, 2010
Dear Viewpoint:

Hometown Angels - She was in need of prayer, she was facing surgery and she wanted someone in the waiting room praying for her. Well friends, she called a man in our hometown and I know this man, our paths cross sometimes in our work and I will “bet the farm” on him. He is a good, kind Christian man. She gave him her request and not only did he come, his wife and children came also. They sat in the waiting room all night praying for her, and the doctor to be successful, when morning came, “all was well.” This lady told me “she knew those prayers brought her through.”

Scene 2 - On this cold, windy, snowy morning, I “step back across time.” I would put Joey, my blond lab on his leash and we would walk down the road to where a sweet widow lady lives. She would always welcome us into her home, she would give Joey a snack and he would lay beside her woodstove, just as content as could be. We would fill up her woodbox, while Joey dreamed of warm days and swimming in her pond, down where the ducks floated so peacefully. After filling her woodbox, we would have coffee and sometimes a piece of her award winning pecan pie, made with pecans we had gathered from her two pecan trees. I always called her “my angel at the road.” She was a great comfort to me after my momma had went to heaven, she always looked for the good things in life, she always found “sunshine,” even on a cloudy day. We had so many good visits over the years, one day God called her home. Joey and I still take our walks down to the end of the road, we pass her home and I tell Joey “our angel has traded this home for a mansion on heavens’ hilltop.”

Scene 3 - I see “angels” in our hometown everyday, no they don’t have wings and halos, but they have something much more beautiful, loving and giving hearts.

As the curtain closes: Friends, when I think of our “hometown angels” I can’t help but smile and thank God.
