Opinion Bland competition thanksSoVaNow.com / March 11, 2010
Dear Viewpoint:We have received many raves about our recent Bland Memorial Music Contest at The Prizery. We had almost a full house and collected 247 pairs of used glasses. On behalf of the South Boston Lions Club, and for myself personally, I want to thank Chris Jones, Executive Director of The Prizery; Lion Ernelle Bellamy, Technical Director at The Prizery; Betty Woods of The Prizery; Carlos Bardales, Elvira Green, Dr. James Kidd, and Dr. Lisa Kinzer, judges; both newspapers for their gracious and excellent coverage; music teachers too numerous to mention; Tim Knowlson and Dennis Dawson, entertainers; Barbara Cage and Margaret Moorefield, owners of the AAA 3-Diamond-rated Bistro 1888; Vicky Allen of Atlantic Medical, Inc.; Lions too numerous to mention; contestants; parents; accompanists; and members of the audience for their contributions.
