Last week in this space, the topic turned to Fifth District Congressman Robert Hurt and his complicity in Republican efforts to end Medicare as we know it. This is potentially a life-and-death matter for folks in the Fifth District and beyond, so let’s dwell on what’s happening in D.C. for a while longer.

Who knows, maybe one day we’ll look back on Friday, April 15, 2011, as the day Robert Hurt kissed his political career goodbye.

Roll, roll, roll that rock back up the hill:

It figured that when the Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors finally moved on the longstanding need to build new school facilities, it would do so in the most grudging, half-hearted fashion possible. Anywhere else, the Board’s foot-dragging would be seen as self-defeating and foolish. Here, it’s major progress. “Major,” of course, being a stand in for “barely in evidence.”
