Suddenly I find myself busy reading up on matters of crime and punishment, and not of the Dostoyevsky sort.

A shadow no more05/04/11 - 6:46 am > Tom's Column
Just about everyone has a 9-11 story. Here’s mine: The attacks took place on a Tuesday morning when normally I’d be planted in front of a computer punching out another edition of The Sun, nowhere near a TV screen and unable to watch the terrible events unfolding in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. But this press day was different: I was sitting in a hospital room at my wife’s side one day after our second child, Mary Carrington, was born. Eva and I spent the morning glued to the news until sensory overload kicked in, and it was time to turn off the tube. What a time and place to confront the insanity and cruelty of the world.
