HELP WANTED: INFORMATION SPECIALIST - Halifax County South Boston Public Library System (South Boston Branch), South Boston, VA
Permanent Part-time **approximately 25 hours per week** weekend and evenings required. High School Graduate or equivalent, some college preferred. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements: Two years of experience in a library or bookstore setting or equivalent is preferred. Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree; experience in a public library or bookstore with an emphasis on working with youth; strong customer service experience; ability to work well with a diverse public of all ages; experience with planning, good computer knowledge and skills with a focus on Microsoft Office; current knowledge of books and popular reading trends; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working in a team environment. Job Responsibilities: Provide in-depth readers' advisory and reference services in a busy library; promote the love of reading and market books to patrons through individual assistance; exhibit a commitment to excellent customer service at all times; assist patrons in locating and checking out materials; maintain patron records; contribute to team decision-making and participate in group projects; spend at least 90% of work time assisting patrons at the Circulation desks; collect and record fines and fees, shelve returned items. Person must be flexible; working primarily at the South Boston Library, but may have to work at other locations when needed.
