School Board to meet at CSELC

South Boston News
Students at Halifax County High School recently collected donations for the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund during a drive sponsored by the SCA. On Friday afternoon SCA officers and representatives, along with members of the student body, presented a check to Ginger Weaver, director of the Halifax/Charlotte County chapter of the American Red Cross. The funds will provide much-needed relief for the people living in the poor country of Haiti that was hit by an earthquake on Jan. 12.

School trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting tonight beginning at 7 p.m. at the Cluster Springs Early Learning Center following their tour of the facility.

With no citizen comment requests turned in by late last week, trustees will recognize the VEX Robotics competition teams under the leadership of Ricky Gordon.

The robotics teams took first place in the Southern Virginia VEX Robotics Championship held on Feb. 20 and are now qualified to compete in the world championship to be held in Dallas, Texas on April 22-24.

Frederick Eily will also recognize participants in the recent bricklaying contest. Trustee Devin Snead and Robert Michaels will discuss the nomination of a McDonald’s All American High School Basketball team member.

Deputy School Superintendent Larry Clark will give a final report on the number of H1N1 shots provided to school students early this year, as well as the number of cases reported in the schools.

Under their consent agenda trustees will review the policy manual revisions, the personnel report for the month and the long term suspension report submitted by Johnson.

Clark will also present a waiver request for the opening of school prior to Labor Day. School officials have to make this request each year in order to open school in August just as they have in previous years.

Finance Director Bill Covington will bring the financial report for approval, followed by an executive meeting for student discipline.
