News Extensive damage in Friday house fireThe News & Record / February 08, 2010
A Friday afternoon house fire resulted in some $50,000 in damages to an Old Grubby Road home. According to a spokesman for the Halifax Volunteer Fire Department, the blaze started in the office area of the two story frame Hilty residence on 3121 Old Grubby Road. The home owner, using a fire extinguisher, had most of the fire “knocked down” when Halifax firefighters arrived on the scene at 3:14 p.m. Firefighters finished up extinguishing the fire and removing the smoke from the home by around 4:30 p.m. Halifax sent three trucks and was assisted by 15 personnel and two trucks from the South Boston Fire Department, six firefighters and one truck from the Oak Level Department and six personnel and one truck from the Liberty Department.
