News Courtroom defendant shows up intoxicated, gets 72 hours in jailThe News & Record / February 08, 2010
A South Boston man facing a Halifax County General District Court date Friday morning ran into more trouble when he appeared at the clerk’s office in what was described as a “disabled condition.” According to Halifax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Kim S. White, Francisco Mendoza Campa was charged with contempt of court and held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail for 72 hours after a court bailiff performed a breathalyzer test on him which registered his alcohol level at .38. The legal limit for intoxication in Virginia is .08. Campa had been scheduled for a court hearing in General District Court that morning at 9:45 a.m. on a misdemeanor DWI, second offense charge.
