News Comcast deal, auto repair business come up for reviewSoVaNow.com / March 08, 2010
South Boston Town Council will host a public hearing tonight on a request for a special use permit which would allow for the operation of an auto and truck general repair business at 512 Chalmers Street. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers on Yancey Street. Town Planners earlier recommended approval of the request on the condition that all fire and building code requirements are met.Also tonight, Council members are expected to review their negotiations with Comcast television whose franchise is up for renewal this year. Several months ago a Comcast representative met with Council and listened to several complaints made by members, but there has been little communication with the company since that visit. Members are also expected to discuss an invitation from the Virginia Municipal league which has suggested hosting a “Local Government Communications Workshop” in South Boston. Council members have been advised that the Rev. David Cline of 800 Grove Avenue has agreed to serve on the Southside Juvenile Group Home Commission. Earlier this year the Town was asked to join with the counties of Mecklenburg and Halifax by naming a member to serve a four year term on the Commission.
