News 4th of July is celebration time in Scottsburg
The News & Record / July 02, 2009
Everything is coming together as members of the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department invite everyone to celebrate the 4th of July in town. Scottsburg’s 28th annual 4th of July event will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade and continue throughout the day, concluding at night with a dance and fireworks show. Fire department members have been burning the midnight oil to get the grounds, as well as the building, ready for a crowd of thousands this weekend. Ricky Gordon, event chairman, said “my favorite part of getting ready is the placing of the American flags on the light poles. You can’t help feeling proud to be an American when you look at them waving in the breeze.” A lot is in store for visitors coming out this weekend. Good music, good food and a good time will be featured, at no cost except for what you spend on food or drinks. There will be chances to win one of three grand cash prizes of $1000, $300 and $200 dollars for a donation of $1.00 per ticket. Why drive a couple of hundred miles and spend a ton of money when you can drive a short distance and have a great time where the kids can run and play? There will be arts and crafts vendors, rides for the kids including pony rides, Dave with Cinn-Sational Cinnamon Buns, a fireman’s competition, quarter scale tractor pull that is set to be bigger than last year, live music and of course the fabulous fireworks display to end the holiday with a bang. So head on out to Scottsburg this Saturday and help celebrate the birth of this great nation. Bring your lawn chairs, your family and “sit a spell with us,” Gordon said. “With the weather predicted to be in the mid 80s it should be an almost perfect day.” Schedule of events Parade starts at 10 a.m. 11:45 Opening Ceremonies Presentation of colors by HCHS JROTC Invocation National Anthem by Carolyn Strom Patriotic Song by Gracie Meadows 12:00 Southern Nights - Rock 12:45 Awards and Trophies 1:00 The Liberty Band — Bluegrass and Gospel 2:00 Fireman’s Competition Scale Tractor Pull 2:30 Lauren Hughes 3:00 The Satterfields - Southern Gospel 4:00 Saved By Grace - Southern Gospel 5:00 Sharp - Rock 6:00 Drawing for cash prizes 6:00 - 9:45 Southern Nights - Country Rock 9:45 Fireworks Tell-a-Friend | Submit a Comment |
