Halifax figures into NFL legend’s ancestry

Emmitt Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher and 2006 Dancing with the Stars champion, visited Halifax County in April to retrace his family ancestry for an episode of a new NBC reality series airing this Friday night at 8 p.m.

Agencies: Go easy on our budgets

Eight individuals representing various local agencies and boards appeared before Halifax County Board of Supervisors on Monday evening to ask that their budgets not suffer drastic cuts in the wake of the economic downturn.

Halifax pushes for bridge access deal

Halifax Town Councilmen spent most of their meeting Tuesday working on the abandonment of the old King’s Bridge right-of-way. South Boston Council members on Monday evening learned of an offer from the Virginia Municipal League to hold a local government community workshop in South Boston sometime in the coming weeks. The workshop will be one of several held around the state with one already scheduled for Vinton and another in Abingdon.
