COMET BASEBALL BOOSTER CLUB MEETS MARCH 8The Comet Baseball Booster Club meets Monday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. All JV and Varsity parents are encouraged to attend as well as anyone else interested in the success of the Comet Baseball program. HALIFAX/SOUTH BOSTON NAACP MEETS MARCH 9 The Halifax County/South Boston Branch of the NAACP will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 9 at Wedgewood Golf Center, 2131 Highway 360 W Halifax at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Clifford Somerville, member of the Virginia Cooperative Extension, will give a presentation concerning the programs that are available through the agency. FREE BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION COURSE AT STAUNTON RIVER PARK MARCH 20 & 27 Staunton River State Park will offer a free Boating Safety Education Course on Saturdays, March 20 and March 27. This class meets the Virginia boating safety education requirement, which is mandated for all personal watercraft (PWC) operators 35 years of age or younger by July 1, 2010. Class hours are from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with a one hour break (bring your own bag lunch). Participants must attend one full-day session. A limited number of slots are available. LOCAL LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM If you are a resident of a long-term care facility (nursing home or assisted living facility) in the counties of Mecklenburg, Halifax or Brunswick and have a complaint, question, or concern that has not been answered to your satisfaction, there is a resource you can call. The ombudsman at Lake Country Area Agency on Aging, Linda Gage, assists and advocates for residents in these counties. You can reach her at (434)447-7661 or 1-800-252-4464, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The local ombudsman protects and represents the rights of persons in nursing homes and adult care residences or those receiving home and community based long-term care. She acts as a resource for information and counseling for issues regarding institution or home-based options for the elderly as well as general issues and concerns by them or their families. The local long-term care ombudsman also seeks to educate consumers of long-term care facilities and their families about their rights and seeks to empower them to find answers to their concerns.
