LOCAL LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM If you are a resident of a long-term care facility (nursing home or assisted living facility) in the counties of Mecklenburg, Halifax or Brunswick and have a complaint, question, or concern that has not been answered to your satisfaction, there is a resource you can call. The ombudsman at Lake Country Area Agency on Aging, Linda Gage, assists and advocates for residents in these counties. You can reach her at (434)447-7661 or 1-800-252-4464, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The local ombudsman protects and represents the rights of persons in nursing homes and adult care residences or those receiving home and community based long-term care. She acts as a resource for information and counseling for issues regarding institution or home-based options for the elderly as well as general issues and concerns by them or their families. The local long-term care ombudsman also seeks to educate consumers of long-term care facilities and their families about their rights and seeks to empower them to find answers to their concerns.
