Fear and loathing. Threats and intimidation. Betrayal and revenge. Trickery and kidnapping. Danger and intrigue. It is indeed a jungle out there. And I should know. I’m from New York.

South Boston News

Charles Dickens’ may have never envisioned “A Christmas Carol” like it is being directed on the stage at The Prizery. There is some singing, some decision-making, some reminiscing, and some magnificent dancing. Bringing the stage to life through dance steps are eight talented young ladies.

The Invisible Theater

It takes a lot of people to put on a play. Long before the lights come up and the actors begin to recite their lines, dozens of people have already been laboring for weeks in the background.

The men of Christmas

South Boston News
The men take center stage for the upcoming Halifax County Little Theatre production of A Christmas Carol.
Impossible as it may seem, there may be a reader or two out there who has been hiding under a rock since 1843, when Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol was first published, so a brief synopsis is in order for the uninitiated. Our story centers around one Ebenezer Scrooge, whose name, down through the years, has become synonymous with such unflattering adjectives as sour, stingy, heartless, mean-spirited, miserly and several other words inappropriate for a family newspaper such as this, but you get the idea. And lest you newcomers underestimate him, his favorite response to just about everything, “Bah, Humbug!” is still in use as a shorthand response for all things sickeningly sentimental such as charity, kindness, love and hope.

Christmas Carol a true family show

When the curtain rises on Halifax County Little Theatre’s production of Alan Menken’s “A Christmas Carol”, audiences will be delighted by the show’s foot-tapping music, the eye-catching set, and the memorable roles being created by local actors. Most enchanting of all may be the performances of the youngest members of the cast. Featuring over twenty children in a variety of roles, this holiday classic charms with a blend of seasoned veterans and newcomers to the stage, many of whom will be sharing the stage with their parents, rendering this a true family show.

Bringing ghosts to life

South Boston News
Not so scary now, but just you wait and see!! These three “Ghosts” will be appearing, and disappearing, in HCLT’s season opener, “A Christmas Carol, opening Nov. 18 at The Prizery.  From left, Jewell Swann Medley as “Ghost of Christmas Future”, Ellen Haskett as “Ghost of Christmas Past” and Richard Grendahl as “Ghost of Christmas Present”.
Signs of the holidays are everywhere: costume parties, trips to the mountains to gaze, comfort food cravings and emerging shopping lists. Time flies; how did we get to Halloween already?
