Halifax Council work session on tap today
Halifax Town Council committees will  hear an update on plans for the
June 21 Halifax Wine Festival when they meet this afternoon at 5:30
p.m. in Town Hall. The festival is being carried out by members of the
Halifax Village Business Association at the Mary Bethune Complex.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of a town post
clock to be placed in the historic Courthouse Square.
The Current Issues Committee will also hear recommendations from the
Town's Zoning Commission about amendments to the Town's commercial zone
which would allow for a manufactured/modular home sales dealership
within the Town. Also under discussion will be sign permit applications
which have been submitted to the zoning committee from Bill Watkins of
Homeplace Creations and the new Wilco-Hess service station.

project which got started this week with White Construction Company
having gotten the contract for the work.

invited to come to their June meeting to look into the possibility of a
centralized municipal election voting place in 2010. This year sixteen
people had to be hired to man the four voting precincts within the Town
since the four ward system was established back in the 1980's.
The Finance Committee will review the advertised FY 2008-09 budget of
$929,971 of which $131,054 comes from the Halifax County Service
Authority to cover general obligation bonds borrowed earlier for sewer
upgrades. The general fund budget is balanced at $798,917.
