The Halifax County Historical Society has been awarded $100,000 for its
Crossing of the Dan Regional Tourism Initiative by the Tobacco
Commission under its special projects category. The permanent exhibit
that will commemorate and interpret the Crossing of the Dan is expected
to encourage visitors to experience American History and learn the true
significance of the event.
"We're very excited about this grant," said South Boston Town Manager
Ted Daniel, one of the committee members who is working on the exhibit
which will be housed in The Prizery in Downtown South Boston. It is
expected to become a major tourist attraction as visitors include it as
a stop on their tour of Revolutionary War history from Guilford
Courthouse to Yorktown.

Halifax Educational Foundation to help complete the work on the Center
for Nursing Excellence which will be housed in the Southern Virginia
