Halifax County got its first rental check for use of their recently
purchased Halifax County Fairgrounds on Monday night when members of
the Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival Committee
presented them with a check for $2,000 for use of the fairgrounds
during early May.
But that wasn't all as the festival group also donated another $5,000
check to the County for use in making improvements to the fairgrounds
property. The group recommended that some of that money be used to
develop some 22 camping areas with hook-ups around the property that
could be rented.
Noting that the heritage festival group is the first to actually pay
for use of the fairgrounds, spokesman Bobby Conner thanked Supervisors
for bringing the fairgrounds up to code. Noting this year's event which
is scheduled for May 2, 3 and 4 will be the 5th Annual Festival, Conner
said the group's mission is simply "to provide a good time" for local
residents, as well as the many visitors who come from far and wide.
The week-end event will feature antique tractors, cars and trucks as
well as quarter scale tractor pulls full size tractor pulls, "burn
outs", vintage cars and fun horse events. The exhibit hall will be
filled with vendors and craft demonstrations and antique farm equipment
and machinery will be displayed and demonstrated on the midway. Local
musical entertainment will be featured each day and delicious festival
foods will be available all week-end.
"It's definitely a labor of love," Conner said, noting that it is also
a history lesson for festival goers to see the machines, tools, farm
equipment, tractors and vehicles, many of which helped to shape the
rich agricultural heritage of the County. Those wishing more
