Hearing set on future of Washington Coleman

Halifax County Supervisors have set a public hearing for Monday night,
January 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Mary
Bethune Complex in Halifax to hear comments about the future of the
Washington Coleman Elementary School property.
That property is one of the closed elementary school properties that
has been turned back to the County by the Halifax County School Board.
Earlier when construction of the two new elementary schools was being
planned South Boston Town Council donated land for the new South Boston
Elementary School on property the Town owned off Hamilton Boulevard for
the new facility with the understanding that the Washington-Coleman
facility would be turned back over to the Town.
However, the School Board had to return the property to the County
which, in turn, expects to give it back to the Town. But before that
can be done, a public hearing must be conducted to receive citizen
comments on the transfer.
